220T Tuning

  2016 Clio RS 220T
Hi All,

I have a 2016 rs220 and Im looking to get it remapped, I've had the car almost a year and want to get some extra power out of it. Unfortunately Im not very clued up when it comes to tuning. I've looked through various other threads but cant find much clarity. What experience have people had tuning these ? Has the car held up well post remap? I see stage 2 takes it to around 255-260bhp which is what id be looking for. What hardware would be required if i were to go for stage 2 and how much does it all cost roughly? The car currently has a Non res scorpion catback, forge BOV and Intake.

Any insight would be great, TIA

Stage 2 would be intercooler and decat I would imagine.

RSTuning in Leeds are the main ones for tuning these.

Possibly EFI Parts in Runcorn as well, but you'd have to ask.

Very helpful thank you, I had been looking into buying an Airtec intercooler anyway, would this suit or is there better ?

Pro Alloy is better, I had an Airtec before and it was losing too much through the intercooler. RS Tuning IMO are the go to company for mapping, I had 250hp and 260 torque, tracked it and had absolutely no problems whatsoever, however if you track it often I'd recommend the Pro Alloy radiator, and try to retain as much plastic shrouding to deflect air into and not around the rad.

The problem I have is that I live in the Isle of man, great fun as there is no speed limit or speedcameras and lots of fun roads, but it makes vehicle tuning quite the challenge unless your a Ford or VW owner. There are places capable of tuning my Clio over here but they definitely don't specialise in them so I would need to organise hardware etc. myself before taking her in for the map, hence why Im asking for advice on here.

Was that stage 1 or 2 that took you to 250? Was it a noticeable difference? Lovely Clio by the way!

I’ve asked this before but didn’t get to the bottom of it.

What are the hardware differences between the 200 and 220? I’m talking mk4 in both here

Yup, make sure your clutch is in decent order first otherwise it's a complete non starter.

Get it on a rolling road first and then go from there. My clutch issue showed up straight away on the dyno.

Mine wasn't the only one in a recent RS Tuning remap group buy that ended up leaving without a remap

What were the prices for up rated clutch packs?

My concern was how hot they run as standard. In the summer after a blast over the dukes pass I couldn't touch my bonnet, add a big intercooler blocking flow to the radiator and a remapped car running hotter, that was a concern for me

I think if I ever change the clutch in mine and then tune it, I'd be going hybrid turbo from the guy on the Facebook group, and a map. Plus a cooler obviously.
280bhp would be lovely

Turbo and intake.

I hate all this stage 1 and stage 2 chat, where did that come from??!!!!

That’s what I’d pieced together from reading about them but wasn’t sure. Not really a big problem long term as most will swap the turbo anyway if they’re going for bigger power

Exchange for a hybrid 280 unit and it's around the £6-700 mark, it really is the way to go and something I would have done if I'd have kept the 220

From the tuners, because it's much easier to sell to average Joe who doesn't have a massive knowledge of cars.
It means your totally un-initiated person will know the correct specification and parts to buy/install to get a set power out of the engine.

It might sound silly, but don't forget the huge number of total con-artists operating who will happily sell total rubbish on the promise it improves performance.
With stage tuning you've just got a list, buy that stuff and have map, you're done.
