Just make sure you tell the person that collects it that you’ll be buying it back.

Empty it if all your personal belongings and DO NOT give them the V5, service history etc. if they ask for it tell them it’s at your parents house 250 miles away.

If you do end up buying it back as part of the settlement, they’ll deliver it back to you included in the price.
Last time I had a car written off I told them to f**k right off and had it taken to my house.

I think because their procedure said they had to collect it they were in a right panic, sent an assessor to my house who wrote the car off and then because their computer kept saying they needed to pick the car up and I kept telling them to do one they just kept increasing their offer. Was a long time ago now 10years ish and was an old Sierra, they started at £200 and after a week they were upto £1000...

I just kept saying no and putting the phone down to all their offers and they wanted the case closed asap. I suspect having the car at your place already also makes buying it back, and not having the car knocked about it some pikey yard.

@SharpyClio the damage doesn't look awful, wing, wing mirror, bumper under tray thing? and get the bumper painted?

Yeah it’s not too bad really hence why I want to keep it.

by my reckoning,

Replace
- wing mirror
- xenon headlight
- wing
- wheel centre cap

repair
- bumper
- wheel

the rest is okay.

I missed the fact that the headlight wasn't still there :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like a good plan!

When a car reversed into my front wheel, it bent the track rod end like a banana - so double check that too!

Sub £500 fix easy.

ill take the opportunity to fix some other odds and sods as well but yeah shouldn’t be too bad.

I’ll be stripping down at the front to sort the suspension crunch it’s had so I might just replace all the tracks rods etc at the same time.

I have it listed at £6k with my insurer not sure how close to that they’ll get but we’ll see.. 😬
I've always assumed the valuation you put on your policy is the ceiling when it comes to a payout but I'm not so sure now so maybe it will be more.

Surely that other guy who got a massive payout didn't have that high a valuation on the policy?

Its more of a guide, but they will normally take it from the book value and the valuation taken from a 3rd party assessor, they will provide a range say £3-£8k and the insurer will then probably start with an offer of £3k.

I’ve now hidden the car following more messages and calls from CoPart. What a horrible company, really applying the pressure. They’ve said they’ll be here tomorrow to collect it, I’m going to let them come, waste time and fuel, and then tell the driver the cars not here and they’ve been told it not being collected.

They sound awful. Just extra stress you could do without.

Think I have managed to see off Copart (which means they will probably turn up later) and Solus have been in touch for a valuation and buy back value. So should have a feel for where I will stand later this week and can look at what I need to do to get it back on the road.

Still no word on liability, I have clearly stated that I am not responsible so we will see where we get to.

Unfortunately, you're going to be held liable for this. The fact is, he was overtaking and you've pulled into his path. Whether he was doing 5, 10 or 20mph over the limit has no bearing. You've failed to heed his presence and position before making your manouvre.

so if someone is indicating to turn right, and I decide to overtake them at speed, rather than wait for them to turn it's their fault if we crash.
