Car passed, no advisories. MOT guy did remark the OSR caliper was a bit weak, I've been thinking about getting a spare set of calipers to have refurbed and painted anyway. No big rush though, car brakes fine, so will leave it as is for now. If anyone has a spare set of rear calipers kicking around that would be ideal for a refurb let me know.
He also said I've spent too much money on the car, because it's far too nice for a Clio haha.

Still not fully recovered from getting ill when I was on holiday, so I was only at CSF for a few hours in the morning on Saturday. Looking back I should've just done the afternoon/evening as there seemed to be a lot more people about after I left. Learned for next year though. Car has been doing well and still no sign of any limp mode or other funny behaviour since the ECU swap, although I haven't done many miles since.

Quick snap of the car I took when I pulled over 5 mins from Blyton.

Still need to give her a proper machine polish, not been feeling up to doing much work on the car at the moment.

A few updates recently, some minor some major.

A really small thing that's bugged me since I got the car, the main key is really worn down, so much so that the textured Renault logo on the back and down arrow have been worn almost completely smooth. I know you can get replacement plastic housings cheap, but they lack the Renault logo on the back so I've never been particularly keen on them. I have looked for 2nd hand ones a few times but they're usually even worse than mine and have usually been attacked with a screwdriver or something at some point to try and get the key open to change the battery. I did stumble on this on eBay though, a nearly perfect genuine key. Swapped the blade and circuit board over from my key and I feel much better, I also stuck a rubber case over the key to protect it, not sure if I'll keep that though.

New:

I've had a brand new set of front arch liners (the front portion) for a while now, mine have definitely seen better days so I hunted both sides down which took some doing as they're NLA and nearly impossible to come by now.

Ignore the storage dust, I did clean them up a bit before I stuck them in. I couldn't find the fir tree clips I ordered though so I had to re-use, I'll order some more and stick them in soon as mine were quite mangled. At the same time I replaced the screws around the arches with some nice marine grade stainless ones I bought, better than rusty fasteners, but I'm not sure about the silver. May end up spraying the visible ones in RB if I really want to be anal.

I definitely need to give my arches a good clean out, as well as take my side skirts off and clean up the sills. I've got all the stuff to do it, I'm just a bit lazy at the moment.

In more major news, I was tempted into buying the very nice trendlines that @Don’t call me Dave had for sale and I'm really glad I made the 5 hour round trip to Gloucestershire to get them, not just because Russ is a great guy and it was great to meet him, the seats are in great condition with just a bit of a mark on the drivers bolster which I can live with, and came with the revered Jon Foz subframes which lets them sit nice and low in the car.
I've been getting a bit fed up having my head right up in the headliner, so these should solve that nicely. I've always liked the standard seats, they're nice armchairs, but I'm 6'4" or so with a slim frame so I can feel myself slide on the seat in corners when pushing on which doesn't inspire confidence. I did like the idea of leather pole positions, but I can't justify £2k on seats however I frame it. I figure these will hold their value and I like the idea that even though these came out of a Megane R26, they could've been optioned from factory on these cars. I'm not about to put pov spec back seats in though!
IMG-4870.jpg

For future reference, they do clear an Alpine SWE-1200 sub no problems even on the Jon Foz low frames. I also vac'd out under each seat as I had them out.

IMG-4919.jpg

We did have a go at coding out the airbag light with Russ's RSTuner, but we couldn't get it to work for whatever reason even though it seemed right on the config. I stuck the driver's seat in and had a go this week and did manage to get the light out with some fiddling. Credit to Henk at @Fastchip , I bought the airbag module Thursday evening and had the code to unlock it on mine by 10am Friday morning.

In terms of driving with the new seats, they feel significantly more supportive and in a much better position. It's really given me more confidence in corners, when you don't slide about in the seat you can feel what the car is doing! I'll need to do some more journeys in them to see how they fare on a longer, less spirited drive, but loving them so far.
They also look the absolute b****cks in my opinion, so I'm really happy with them. Will also be keeping the standard seats if the time to sell ever comes.

seats is one of the things I really want to do in mine. Can’t decide between trend lines or fixed back buckets.

either way it looks mint! 👍

Whan I put the standard seats and steering wheel back in mine it really showed up what a terrible job renault did of the driving position! That key was a good find👍.

Not a ton going on with this lately, mostly just trying to keep it clean despite the crappy weather and the state of our driveway.

Had an interior rattle from the boot for a while only happens when setting off in first so not a big deal, but would be nice to fix. I thought it was the plastic panel that goes on the inside of the boot lid, but that's on firmly and the trim clips are still in place. Upon further investigation I believe it's the parcel shelf rattling against the plastic it sits on, I've stuck some foam tape on them so will see if that works.

I also bought a couple of bits from a guy up in Newark, an alternator shield as I don't appear to have one and a ph1 stalk. Don't think I'll end up going down the aftermarket steering wheel route so will probably sell the latter.
With the alternator shield, I cannot figure out a how it attaches or how you get it in place, AC pipes etc. are in the way. I assume you have to take the front grille off?
IMG-5030.jpg

Shield has a few marks on it, but shouldn't matter when fitted, if I ever figure out how to anyway.

Also spent a week in Shropshire house/dog sitting for a family friend, car was a bit dirtier than the picture below suggests. The roads in Shropshire always amaze me at how bad they are, even compared to Lincolnshire where I wouldn't say they're great, maybe a different story in the summer on some B roads.
IMG-4982 (1).jpg

Car is going to my mechanic in just over a weeks time to have my refurbed brake calipers fitted, had them done by SSL Autoparts back in August and they look excellent, more about that after they're fitted though. The brake pads and discs still have tons of life left in them, assume it's fine just stick them back in the new calipers? A tiny lip on the front discs is all I can find in terms of wear really.
They're also going to investigate the gear linkage rattle that's been annoying me, I've got a new nylon bush coming that may fix it, but if not they can hopefully tell me what's causing it at least.

He's convinced it's at the stick end rather than the gearbox end. Shift is marginally better, but it wasn't bad at all to begin with, so nothing major gained there. He did say the old bush was on it's way out though so not a complete waste of time.

Just ticked over 143k coming back from my Christmas trip seeing some family. Really annoyed I didn’t get some front shots of the car in front of the house, it looked very picturesque, didn’t want to look like too much of a car virgin so these will have to do.

Car is running well, also remembered I forgot to update the thread about my exhaust heat shield rattle I had back in the autumn. A few months ago I got under the car and tightened up one of the nuts that had apparently worked loose and rattle gone. It’s a bit cracked by the penny washers though so if it gets worse I’ll make my own replacement.

Looks picturesque!

Did you get the alternator shield fitted? I’ve just fitted a fresh upper grille. The shield clips to the grille which clips to the bumper. You can remove/fit the shield without removing the bumper or grille by removing the top two plastic grille clips on the slam panel giving you enough room to get your hand behind the grille.

You may lose some skin on your hands though!

No I haven't fitted it yet, one for the spring I think. Will definitely give it another go now I know it's possible, thanks!

In typical Renault fashion she's given me something else to look into. Occasionally the alarm has gone off before for no reason, it's done it a few times over the last year, but didn't take much notice. It's now doing it more frequently, twice this week it's gone off for no reason. Doesn't seem to be weather or time of day dependent, it's always 3 flashes for the interior sensors that have gone off. Fortunately I've been able to switch it off quickly and I'm not worried about leaving it unlocked at home temporarily, I'd rather not end up with a brick through the window if I leave it locked up somewhere though.
I've done some reading, namely an ancient guide saying two wires for the interior sensors can be swapped around to change the sensitivity to 20% rather than 80%, no instructions on how to do it though.

I stumbled upon this post from @Steven103 here: https://cliosport.net/threads/ultrasonic-sensitivity-red-white-wires.686754/#post-10587033 so I have something to look for, apparently behind the glovebox. I don't think you can take the glovebox out though, I have taken the dash top off a few times and that's easy enough.
Is it essentially random where Renault UK may have left the red and white connectors as shown in Steven's post? Or has anyone done this fix in the last few years who can tell me where they were in their car? Would prefer to swap the connectors, rather than do any soldering if I can help it.

Mine always puts the alarm on for no reason if I lock it with the key button

I've just got into the habit of pressing the button on the dash and then trying my best to remember to get the key out of the ignition before shutting the door. Yes I've locked my keys in the car before😑🤣

My interior sensors are not even connected, someone just cut the wires off. Pretty sure that reduces the sensitivity. Mine only goes off when I open the door too quickly after I unlock it.

Yeah mine does the same, needs a second or two to disarm. Early 2000s alarms for you I suppose, would like to keep all functionality if I can, but I’ll cut the wires if I have to.

Just got the car back from being serviced, just under 143500 miles, standard genuine air filter, oil filter, Castrol 5-40 oil and sump plug washer. Found a good deal here on eBay for the bits in case anyone else needs. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182739598785
Also had two new Lemforder ball joints fitted to the front, nothing particularly wrong with the old ones, as I've mentioned it's had new genuine wishbones fitted to both sides (stickers are still on them) at some point, but I strangely don't have a receipt for them in the ridiculously big history file, so I figured for £50 the peace of mind of having nice new ones was worth it.
I also have a genuine cabin filter to stick in, not done that yet though. Easy enough to do myself so didn't task the garage with it.

Done a couple of tiny bits, which is all I can do at the minute with the driveway being taken over for building work.

New vs old front diamond (8200027424):

Ignore the mucky car, this was a few weeks ago, old badge wasn't bad, just a bit marred and stone chipped.

I keep toying with the idea of changing springs for something that may be marginally more comfortable (sportlines), but then I drive the car in a bit of anger and change my mind. She's driving so well at the moment I'd be crazy to change anything I think, I've only done about 3k miles since the MOT in July anyway.
Plus if I wanted a wafty, comfortable car, I'm driving the wrong car to begin with!

Had some very nice compliments from my mechanic on the car too when it was in, everything comes off easily and it's great underneath. Doesn't mean I won't be doing some rust preventative work when I get some work space back though, I want this car to last long into the future.

Not tackled the alarm being hyperactive yet either, or chased a rattle in the interior. Also have some expensive bits of plastic from Renault for the engine bay to tidy that up over the summer. Still minor stuff to be done as always.

Lovely, you've convinced me to go back to Turini's on the RB.
Initially I wasn’t a massive fan when I bought the car. I didn’t hate the original wheels on my arctic, but once I had the turinis refurbed I think they look stunning. Definitely a reason everyone seems to run them on mk2s.
Would definitely suit your RB, it’s perfect. Almost doesn’t seem right when I see them on the standard wheels now.

I'm going to switch to 15's, and some stickier tyres I think.

I've got another set identical to those Darryl. The lad from who I bought the RB from only had 3 Turini's so bought a spare off me. They were in the colour on your BG. He just went to the same place I go and had the other 3 refurbished in the same colour.

I used to run TD Pro Race 15s on that car and they're much better I think. But because of the standard Cup springs, the arch gap was too high so went back to 16s. You'll sell those easy fella as I got £650 for my last set with tyres.

I'm going Silver on my spare set.

Did the first step of my little engine bay tidy up today, the broken clip on the lower fuse box cover has annoyed me greatly since I got the car. Ordered a new lower fuse box cover new from Renault and I figured it would be silly to only do the lower cover, so the top was ordered at the same time. £50 or so later and picked them both up.
Before:
IMG_5406.jpeg

Part numbers of upper and lower covers in case anyone wants to do the same:
IMG_5410.jpeg

Getting the old lower cover out was a proper pain, it's so tight in that area and you don't have a ton of cable length to play with, obviously got to be quite sympathetic with the cables too, last thing I want is an electrical fault. Had to unclip the fuse holders that were clipped into the cover, unscrew the two 10mm nuts and then unclip the cable that's on the outside of the box by the inner wing and then gently wiggle it out.
Getting it back in was similarly painful, both metaphorically and physically.

Worth it though, new covers installed:
IMG_5413.jpg

Gave the engine bay a quick spritz of APC and a wipe down while I was there too. Nowhere near a proper clean, but just to bring some shine back. Still plenty to do under here, but got to start somewhere. The engine hoist eye needs sorting, so do the ECU brackets and airbox screws.

Checked the car still fired up once I got everything back in, had the battery out so had to pair my phone, set the clock etc. When I first put the key in the red immobiliser light stayed on, I feared the worst but didn't panic, gave the car a few seconds to recalibrate, tried again and the light went out and started up just fine, no lights on the dash. Success.

Going to have a crack at another tiny thing that annoys me far more than it should tomorrow, although that's already going wrong and I've done nothing more than the prep for that, so will see how I get on.

Edit: Also left the bottom 10mm off as it felt like it was rounding off while I removed it, it's properly corroded. Box is super solid with just the one in, so will leave it as is until I can get a new one.

Definitely a good investment buying new. I scoured the universe for a good second hand one for my old BG and the clip broke off putting it on 🙈 I paid £30 as well. 😭 Now whip the engine out and get into all the nooks and crannies 😂

Yeah I similarly had a look for a good used one, but none seemed to be in great shape and would've cost similar to new. Think the bottom cover was £26+VAT, but don't quote me on that.
No chance I'm taking the engine out :ROFLMAO: , I can barely put in a set of arch liners. Would love to do it just for the OCD factor of having everything perfect in there though.

In other news, while I was in Shropshire for a week I picked up a passenger rear seat from a boggo spec Clio for £10 purely to harvest the seat release button from it. The seat smells like wet dog and I also didn't realise until I got it home that the little protrusion from it for the reat seat belt is cracked.
It's better than my current one that's completely missing, and I'm hoping that as I don't use the rear seats for much of anything it'll stay in tact for a while anyway. As much as I love the car, I cannot bring myself to pay nearly £40 for a brand new button from Renault. I just hate looking over my shoulder and seeing it broken off.

Not fitted in the car yet, got distracted by helping out on @The Handbrake Squashie 's Clio with my RStuner and watching the F1 this afternoon. The RStuner is getting plenty of use at the minute, but not on my own car, coded out the airbag light on a guy on facebook's 182 while I was in Shropshire too. Always happy to help anyone else mad enough to try and keep these cars going.

I'm impressed with mine, the rear calipers were a bit sticky when they were first put on, but I think I probably had some uneven brake pad wear from the old ones being past their best. Cleared up after a week or so.

Plus they look excellent in silver IMO, I was half tempted to go for red, but I think the loud colours look a bit silly unless you've got big 4 pot brembos or something. Silver goes well with the silver accents on the car anyway.

I managed to find a beautiful pair of rear seat releases on one of our trade in’s - for an imbecile like me they took some getting out.

I’ll watch out for some more and drop you a Pm

View attachment 1634217
Yeah please do, passenger side is what I'm after, but I'd take a pair if you find another set like that. My cracked one will mostly satisfy the itch for now, but a cheaper replacement than an £80 pair from Renault would be much appreciated.

I didn't have a clue how to get them out either, of even if you could, but found a post here that details it pretty well. Basically unzip, pull the cover off the back as much as you can then get a long screwdriver to unclip each side, while pulling out from the top if that makes any sense for anyone else wanting to do the same.

Nightmare for me - the car had been sent to the Auction’s and was on my pre-sale sheet - so of I headed to Manheim Leeds to see if they were any good - all I had was the key in my hand which I used as to saw the back cloth so I could push them out.

I also got these window surround rubbers of another trade in as mine had very slightly bubbled - drove the car back to my bodyshop in Huddersfield to get them removed and then headed back to Leeds - well worth the effort as there £150 per side.
