Amazon fire TV sticks

Hypothetically speaking, the dodgy ones... Do they replace Netflix and amazon prime etc? Or do people still pay for Netflix

Surely that’d be up to you. If you want to keep the subscriptions for them plus have the use of the dodgy app too.

Sorry I don't know if I was very clear, I meant can you get basically everything that's on Netflix on the stick so having a subscription to actual Netflix is pointless.

I wasn't sure if the sticks were just for the occasional movie (someone very very close to me has a movie app on their phone (because android) and it has all the latest series and recent films on it which I'm told the person just downloads and then casts to the TV)

Can get pretty much everything, takes a couple of days for just released stuff to appear on there.

I’m sure you can get everything plus more than Netflix etc 👍

People use the stick in replacement for Sky/Virgin as it has such a vast amount of stuff on it.

If I was going to run one, I’d probably still have Netflix and Prime. Because a) everything isn’t there and b) I would mostly use it for football/f1 and such.

Fully depends on the service. Some have vast offerings, some dont.

Depends on your appetite.
But many do keep say Disney Plus, Netflix and Prime. Others dont bother and rely on the video on demand stuff.

All i can say, is the focus is live tv and every service will say that is priority over "oh my single video isn't working during live football."

I still have my other subscriptions as I am anal/fussy with picture and sound quality when it comes to streaming a film.

I mostly use the firestick/chrome cast thing for the live sports such as football or F1..
Its worth it for the live sports alone in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, picture quality is still good with On demand stuff but it doesn't look as good as things which are streamed from a subscription service and likewise for Blu Rays etc. But that's irrelevant

I use Syncler with Real Debrid but still have Netflix and Disney. The latter 2 are more convenient especially for the kids or the missus who is useless with Tech stuff. Biggest benefit with the RD is getting a pick of literally everything from all services and new shows/film are up very quick.

I've got a new Firestick 4k Max, and I'm wondering what apps are current. Just for film and TV. I've been using Kodi with its various add-ons, but is there something better? I've been using another 'host' type programme but can't for the life of me remember what its called.
Edit: Googled it, its Stremio.

I've been using Syncler for years now although it's very similar to Streamio afaik. Highly rate it for TV/Films etc linked with a Real Debrid account. Been using it on an Nvidia Shield and it plays 4k stuff of the TV no issues.

The only thing we kept was Prime, because of the deliveries.

We got rid of Netflix, Disney Plus and Now TV. Saved us over £50 a month! It's got everything and more than we had.

If I had a Sky package I'd be getting rid of that too.

Which one did you go for please?

Now at the stage where I will be wanting to get one soon as possible really.

Thanks

I'm just about to setup my new Firestick. I've gone for the 4K Max version when they had money off the other day.
I've been using Kodi and Stremio recently on my ancient Firestick. Are they the best/current ones?
PM me if preferred, cheers!

Anybody recommend a decent provider?

Trialled a few that were laggy but Lux seems to be the most decent one I've trialled so far

I can probably help out. Not as cheap as some folks have mentioned in here, but something like £120 will get you access to everything for 12 months. All UK TV (Sky Sports, movies, Pay per view etc) loads of foreign stuff along with 20-30k movies on demand (many new/current) and about 7-8k TV series. Can show you ours if/when you come for the Mini (y)

Not being a kn**b but can I ask why much more so compared to others?

I assume you are reselling and not your own servers etc?

Couldn't tell you. My dad is the reseller, so I assume he's making a bit on it - I've never asked as I see it as decent value regardless. Price above is what he charges me, so I'm not making anything on it - just offering to help out a fellow CSer. I know renewal is a fair bit cheaper, it's just the initial year at that price. I've just renewed my own with him.

EDIT: I've just been back a page or 2 and a few folk are paying £10-12 a month so it's not really any more expensive than some are already paying.

Cheaper isn't always better. My 'friend' pays £90 a year and could get it cheaper but it's been faultless and secure.

I know a lot of the cheaper ones, people pay for then a few months down the line, they get shut down. Not saying they all do but my 'friend' has had 'his' for years with next to no issues

I pay £12 a month, not the cheapest but the guy is spot on and sorts issues out quickly, plus paying monthly means if it goes tits up you haven't forked out for a years supply, my guy isn't talking anyone new on now,

I'm revisiting this now, after a year or so when I last had a look at the idea of a Fire Stick.

How do they work, and how do I go about getting one? I spoke to someone on here a year ago, briefly, but don't have the chat anymore - funnily enough, I was about to get one, but EE (who I currently have my TV with) sent me an Apple TV Box so I've used that in the meantime. Sick of spending out on 100's of streaming services, so hoping to get a Fire Stick.

I have a Fire TV Stick at home, do I use that? Or do I buy one pre-loaded? Who and where do I go to get hold of one? As whoever it was I spoke to last time, said he had a space or two, but it was hard to come by so I presume that ship has sailed now!

There are a tonne of options, so fear not. But this can also mean it becomes a little overwhelming.

Like with most things, go with a service somoene else has as A) they will be able to give you some guarantee of if its good or not. B) They should be able to help you get it set up.

I dont know a huge amount about them, but providing you can follow basic instructions, you wont struggle.

Essentially, you load some software onto the firestick so, no, you dont 'need' a pre-loaded one*. Most of the people doing it now have some instructions as to how to get online, lots of them also run Discord channels so you can ask others for support etc. Atfter your software is loaded, you 'log in' and then basically youre off to the races.

Im sure someone on here has a connection to one. I would offer to help, but I was set up by someone I know and so dont have the direct link - if that makes any sense.

All I would say is that, whilst theyre excellent, they can be a little stuttery at times. Ive had the F1 be a little jittery and sometimes 4k movies are a proper pain to watch as they drop frame rate. Before other jump on and suggest its a 'me' problem, ive got the latest and greatest firestick with a 500/500 internet service.

*I would thoroughly recommend having the newest/best fire stick as sometimes they can be very very laggy otherwise. My early firestick, now not used, was a nightmare as it would take an eternity to load anything and also was VERY jumpy

I ended up getting a firestick for £40 on Amazon and then just downloaded a movie and TV app for free that's got absolutely everything on it. New releases and new films. Perfect for me as I don't care for any live sport.
