The Cars Spotted Appreciation Thread

Not really. Its nice to know a few words and phrases as it’s really appreciated, and I’ll be bowing to people for weeks to come, but as @ForceIndia says the translator app is a godsend.

In restaurants most food has pictures next to it on the menu, so knowing ‘I would like this please’ and pointing seems to work. Or ‘would would you recommend’ if you’re like me and will try anything. A lot of the language here is nuanced by tone, so it’s fun emphasising ‘oushi nei!’ (Almost slang Japanese for ‘that’s good yeah/isn’t it) if you eat something in front of the chef/waiter - they love that 😂

Anyway, a car. What’s this? I’m pretty good with JDM cars but don’t know this.

I found out recently to look at the position of the brake calipers. On the front of an Escort Cosworth they're next to the door, on a Mk5 Escort etc they are on the other side, next to the front bumper.

On the back they're at the top of the disc. On a Mk5 they are next to the rear bumper. Sure, someone could sort that out but most won't.

Also, an Escort Cosworth is nothing like a Mk5 Escort. I think it only shares about three things with one.

I'm sure the escort Cosworth had the Sierra Cosworth floor pan

Roof skin and the doors. That's it.

The position of the front wheel gives away even some of the better reps. The front wheel sits slightly further forward on the Cosworth, so the front overhang is shorter. Unless you use genuine front wings and bumper (and modified lower arms to move the wheel forward), it ends up looking a bit odd as the bumper looks long.

It's a lot of effort really. Better to just make it look like an RS2000 and spend the money on making it faster and handle better. Mad seeing people asking five-figure sums for reps too.

Llanelli, I’ve been there with work a little while back and was a bit taken aback! Not what you expect to see in an otherwise normal little dead end street!

We're staying with my FIL atm due to his health, my house is in Llangennech. I've walked passed this car a few times over the last few days. It doesn't make any sense at all lol!

I was based in Llangennech at the time as it happens! To be honest, as much as it doesn’t make sense, I think given the opportunity I’d have a bright orange McLaren on my drive in a heartbeat 🤷🏼‍♂️

You're joking?

I've nothing against replicas, but asking top money for something that is nothing like the real deal is stupid.

Yeah definitely seen it in the past. The prices of MK5/6 Escorts seem to have got a bit mental generally to be honest though. I had loads of them when I was younger and have a real soft spot for them, but I can't believe some people think base model ones are now worth thousands. I paid £800 for a 60k mile, one-pensioner owner 1.6 MK5 last year, which is more than enough for a car that most people hate!
