  clio 172 FF
Hi all, I'm new here.

I've got a few quid put away for a either a 172 or 182, you guys seem to know your stuff, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well for a start there is hardly any difference in performance unless you get a 172 cup light as fook if i am wrong I'm sure i willl be corrected. if i was in you shoes i would go for a 182 with cup packs you get all the toys with the better suspension thats just my veiw hope this helps

Hello Wildy.

I think you could do no better than to buy my motor, 'Cos I'm a sensible old b*****d, it's never been abused.

I need money to buy a pal's Evo 8.

How much cash have you saved?

Yes I see that now Wildy. And for not much more you could be the happy owner of my lovely wee cup.

I can't emphasize enough the absolute necessity to pay top whack for a pristine example at the get go. [my 182] Saves your self grief/cash down the line.

You will read about people having reliability issues with the RS, not me I'm glad to report. Has'nt had a single glitch since I drove out the showroom 11,601 miles ago.

a 172 with eibach pro springs gives you everything a cupped 182 will :)

lol hmm... interesting argument.

I wouldn't spend more than £8k on a 182 if its a 182 ur looking at. I'll never buy a new car again, If it was June 04 again I'd buy a mk2 172 with low mileage instead of a brand new 182.

if you can get a mint mk2 172 for £7k or a mint 182 for £9k on similar mileage, take the 172.

*edit* seeing your budget definitely go for a mk2 172.

Would a 2003 172 be a mark 2, I've been offered one in mint condition with 20,000 miles on the clock for 7, 250. I really wanted a mondial blue one but silver will have to do.

yeah upto 2001 on a Y plate is the mk1 172, old shape. (Mk2 phase 1), 51plate on to 53 (a few 04's too) is mk2 172. (Mk2 phase 2 clio, same shape as a 182)

Mondial blue is only available on clio 172 cups which were cheaper than mk2 172's but are 90kg lighter, far less toys but make better power and generally a little quicker. Nothing really noticeable though.

i'd try and get the price down a bit from 7250, it's a buyers market after all (never pay asking price) but 20k miles is nothing, mines 04 and on 30k.

basically same experience in any of the sports, it will put a smile on your face and it all comes down to money and subtle differences in looks (forgettin the cup that is).

personal pref but if you want to save 3k go for a 172, otherwise 182s your buddy.

there's some silver 172 cups around too, some of which have climate control. These are probably one of the rarest RS clio's around.

to tell the difference between a 172 cup and 172, the cup comes with speedline turini multispoke alloys. It has cloth interior instead of half leather seats and has normal air controls instead of a/c and climate control. as said cups are usually mondial blue but they did do some silver ones.

Not much difference between them all realy a good 172 Full fat (which is arguably the slowest) can easily beat a bad Cup.

182 suspension IMO isn't the best the phase 1 is but thats down to personal preference.

I've got about £7400
If it were my money I'd spend say £4k on a phase 1 172 and spend the rest on holidays. You'll probably want a 182 though you can pick them up for less than £7k if you shop around. There two on the trader one with 182 Cup suspension which whilst not making a huge difference to ride people demand often when they come to buy.

Well what I'm doing is going through a local dealer as I live on an Island and the 172s are few and far between over here. This way he gets the car I want he also goes and picks it up, brings it back and puts it straight into a garage to get it checked over.
He does all the hpi checks and makes sure the vehicle isn't a cat D he's also contacted the previous owner.
I reckon he's put about a grand on top for himself, which brought the car to 7,250. Oh he also has to put it through a manx test, which is a bit like an MOT but a lot stricter.

if all thats been done and its 7250 fair enough.

no speed limits eh lucky git

Not officially but more and more seem to pop up over night.
The coppers and the local D.O.T are trying there hardest to get a speed limit in though.
