mk2 172 Acoustic Valve Meant to be Open or closed

Yesterday i took off my wheel arch liner to have a squint at the acoustic valve and upon removing the pipe coming out the bottom of it i noticed the flap was in the open position (with engine off).

Is this correct or is my valve faulty ?

As i thought they only opened when they reached a certain rpm and closed at low speeds...

Can anyone help ?

Cheers

I don't think they open until about 1800 rpm. I'd remove it anyway as they do nothing other than supress noise and restrict flow.

take it off, you'll notice a change, while your at it, bin one of the horns and the extra bracket for it. small weight saving

take it off

I removed it on Monday afternoon after getting a metre of 60mm ducting pipe from local truck/van dealer down the road and the bloody snow started

I also did the Ecu Reset, where when you start car afterwards it sound like a computer starting up..

Unsure if its made any odds though :S

Maybe the throttle is more responsive or maybe i'm just thinking that

Acoustic Valve Removed left standard airbox feed from top of it. (Inside Arches need a clean though:dapprove: )
