I got mine yesterday, looks like a stealers trip is needed :S

Hardly all they'll do is check it doesn't stick and lubricate the catch maybe. I'm certainly not going to bother, just put a drop of oil on it when I change the engine oil.

Its not really a recall, its just a check. if it was a recall they would be replacing all the bonnet catches with new ones.

this was on watchdog this week, its not about them sticking i dont think, think its about them flying open when driving.

Yes, because they stick open and let the bonnet open.

o rite, didnt hear it properly, did hear it might also have somthing to do with the metal bonet clip coroding, there blaming the owners.saying that they dont maintain there cars properly, wot a load of dogs b****cks:dapprove:

Well I guess its something you never think of really, oh yes i'll just oil my bonnet catch. Its just renault at their finest really.

Says through the DVLA on that letter.

I got my letter a couple of weeks ago as well, but I no-longer own the Clio. Its at a dealers (unsold), so will the next owner get the recall letter as well?.

Yeah I got one the other day, and a page to put in the service book..

My bonnet catch seems fine to me though.

One came for the wifes that she no longer owns today. DVLA even acknowledged that she had sold it a couple of months ago :S

I got the letter but no page. It basically says, take it in, we'll check it. I checked mine and the clip hasnt corrode the little spring still works perfect so I just greased it all and let it be.

i've not got a letter yet either, was checking the oil etc on friday, n the bonnet wouldnt close properly. so wiped all the gunk away n re greased the lot so hopefully it'll stay where its meant to be!

Sounds like nothing to me and don't think I'll bother but could this scenario happen?

You get a letter, you don't get it checked, your bonnet flies open on you, you put an insurance claim in and the insurers find out (as they seem to do) you receieved a letter but did nothing about it. Could they refuse to pay out or lessen your claim due to not taking precautionary measures?

Maybe Day(bert) would know the answer to that?

Im still waiting for someone on here to say that they have had their bonnet fly open on them....i hope it never does but im probably right in thinking that it never will.

The reason? Because most of the people on here look after thier cars a hell of a lot more than some of the people featured on Watchdog that have had it happen.
We spot potential problems waaaay earlier than the non clued up people.

If your car is your hobby then it gets much more attention than those who simply deem their car as a means to get from A to B and nothing more.

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
i havent got one.

My bonnet doesnt 'pop' open anymore though. you have to pull the lever about 3 or 4 times for it to push itself open but it doesnt pop. i then have to pop it open myself by pulling up on the bonnet lightly.

how do you get that.. a recall is asking for them to be returned.. doesn't mean they have to fit new parts..... it is an inspection and lubrication.... recalling is simply asking for the car to be returned for one reason or another...

Its not a recall!!! you dont have to have to go to the dealers if you dont want to!, apparently you are not aloud to take your test in a clio anymore! been stopped until this crap is sorted!!

You are correct. However Watchdog said that you are aloud to take your driving test in a Clio, if and only if you can prove that you have had your vehicle checked at a garage.
