**HELP** Accelerator Not Responding

Don

Car  182 & LY Clio 220 ed
Right...where to begin! :o

I've taken the plenum off to do some painting today. Put it back on, tightened all bolts and reattached the cables to their relevant clips. Now car will start, but the engine management light comes on, and also the engine light (yellow outline of an engine) is showing. The car runs at about 2,000 rpm but I can't use the accelerator.

I can select gears and the clutch works...but no response from the throttle...any ideas???

well, have you defo connected everything?, disconnect the battery for ten mins, and try it then!

As far as I can see...everything I removed including the pipes just from the plenum on the top of the engine. The engine is starting...but there is no response when pressing the accelerator.

This is just the accelerator not working...would disconnecting the battery for 10 mins help that???

Donny sounds like you've taken the block plug off the throttle body? Check you've plugged everthing back in again.

yes, its electronically controlled! did you turn the ignition on with any multiplugs disconected?

There is the big plug at the rear where the HT leads connect to...this has been connected. There is a breather valve (IIRC) this has been reconnected. There is a thick rubber cable at rear of plenum...this has been reconnected, the 2 connectors at top left and top right of plenum have been reconnected...so not sure what can be left.

Currently got battery disconnected...so will see what happens...thanks so far.

where the airbox pipe goes onto the inlet mani, that has a plug there, is that on?? on the throttle body housing?

On the picture (not my car!) I have arrowed the bits where I've reconnected cables.

where the blue pipe goes from the filter onto the inlet manifold, that dark grey box, will have a multiplug somewhere!

Do you mean where the throttle body actually is?

There is a cable to the left of that and it connects into the arrow that I've now marked pink?

Are you going to FCS...if so, I owe you one! :star:

Although there is a thick pipe coming from the pipe with the air filter to the throttle body...where the hell does that connect to???

your asking alot now! so its running ok? the other pipe comes from where? i aint going to FCS, your only down the road though!

It appears to be running fine. Accelerator is working now, just the thick pipe (I've got a standard airbox) and it appears to come from the pipe leading from the airbox to the throttle body...but just is connected on one side. The pipe is about 4 or 5 inches long...and can't see anywhere for it to connect to.

it goes underneath the inlet manifold! like right underneath the coil pack area!

Got it covered...Thanks for your help :star:

Now just gotta get the radio code tomorrow or Monday from the stealer!

you will mess with things , wont you .......:S

Oi...Don't make me come over there!!! ;)

I was trying something...and its working now...especially after a 50 mile drive with the emissions light on :o (Might as well get my money's worth!)

hehe ........ good thing is you didn't do next week on saturday b4 FCS .

Oh man...If I'd done that...I'd have been crying...or phoning for a lift! ;)

Engine is done. :approve: also done something thats been a long time waiting...so feeling a bit better...Will be getting the front end repainted later on in the year. But I've booked this week off work, and the Monday after FCS so I can do the polishing, etc of the car and make sure all is well with it. Tighten a few bolts, etc.

do you want to do mine , only off 1 day :S next sat

Have 11 days to take off between April and August, hadn't taken any until end of last week...took 4 days, got 6 booked now, and then one left!

At least I get my 42 days holiday after September again! :approve:

how did you solve throttle prob as I've got similar prob (only a 1.2 16v though)and been told it's throttle body £400+!!!!

42 days holidays! Can I have a job where you work I get 15 +B/hols.

On the 172 where the throttle body is, there is a cable with clip. I'd forgotten to attach this back, and as a result, the potentiometer (sp?) wasn't telling the throttle body that the accelerator had been pushed. Thats why nothing was happening!

I work in a college as an IT technician, I took a pay cut to work there...but the holidays pay for themselves! ;) Plus, I get free training as long as its to do with my work...or my progression within the company...none of my other companies would pay for Microsoft exams without serious tie-ins to the job!
