as above it also depends on the damage..... it could have been keyed on every panel and then it becomes a cat d...... could be way more reliable than buying a straight one....

I personally wouldnt want to. Not unless you know that whoever repaired it did a proper job, as im sure it must be so easy to miss small things when having to do a repair job on a car, particularly if the person doing it is not too experienced. I wouldnt really want the hassle to be honest.

on the same basis people assume becuase their cars are hpi clear then they haven't had an accident... loads of hpi clear accident damaged cars can be bought from salvage vendors...

For me it would all depend on the price on the car. I was going to buy a 306 diesel really nice low miles, 1k he wanted really good value for money but parents wernt too happy as it was a cat d. On the other hand I wouldnt buy a car for over 2k if it was a cat anything too much money to just fall apart.

theres a program on called "wrecks to riches" where they buy cat D's and repair them. works out cheaper and the cars just as good as new. as long as its a professional job i dont see a problem

Having seen an old college crash a VTS, have it jigged to repair it and it continue to snap drive shafts I would rather splash the cash on a HPI clear one. I know a write off could include an infinite amount of possabilities where by the damage could be 100% repairable, I would however, still prefer to buy a car which to the best of my knowledge had not been crashed or damage repaired. I also think that although you may not have a problem purchasing a Cat C/D repair the re-sale market is very limited.

No matter who fixed it and how well they say it was fixed, I would always have wee niggling feelings about things with it.

My clio is cat d, gotta have it removed from the register though. I saw the pics of the accident and i cannot see how it was classed as d, a crack in the bumper and a smashed light was all. Although the respray on the rear quarter wasn't the best job i must say.

you can't have it removed from the register.... unless you want to lose it for 6 months... after which it won't be on the register but it will appear as an import.

Mine had a new bumper, wing and headlight... Not on the register and to me it means it has less stone chips.

iv seen a few Cat D's that i have been tempted by, but the crap info to support the repair and also the fact resale will be a nightmare put me off.

for example it was a £27k car for £15k. I was tempted and drove it, had it inspected and it all came back fine, but the fact and its what ali said would always be in my head - its been 'bent' so f**k that. Admittedly i did swither over it for ages as i was so tempted.

either your lucky or your not. Its as simple as that.

you need to ask why and you MUST get a look at the photos. Even then you may still be buggered.

Personally, id buy a HPI clear one, atleast then youve got a car which will be reliable (unless its a clio) and will be ok.

Ive had a CatD, had no issues selling it....

wouldnt bother me again, but as with most things to do with car purchasing you have to ve very careful!!

id have a cat D yes, if the price was right, when looking at certain cars its hard to find one that doesnt have history,
i couldnt drive a cat C tho
