172FF Sump Plug Socket ? ?

I'm gonna be changing my oil sometime over this weekend.

I have a few questions.

What type of socket do i need for the sump plug ?
Is it a square one ?

If so what size ?

And how much oil does the 2002 172FF hold with an oil and filter change ? ?

8mm square 3/8" socket . Halfords sell them for a bout a fiver iirc .

5.1 litres of oil with a new oil filter , but you might get away with 5.0 litres due to some sediment in the sump .

Re: 172FF Sump Plug Socket and Oils - Which one ? ?

I've been looking for oils and wa lookig for 5w-40 or 10w-40 oil all can't really find some and dont fancy mail ordering :(

I'v tried halfords.com and my local motor factors (www.autosave-scotland.co.uk/browse/Engine_Oil_Petrol_269_0_0_0.html )

What about 0w-30 or 0w-60 by mobil oils ?

And cant seem to find 5w-40 oils by Castrol only 5w-30 would that be ok ?

They also have various Millers Oils in XSS 5w30, 10w-40 and Miller XFS Oils in 5w-40, 5w-50 as well.

But which one ?:S

Also noticed 10w-60
Whats that ?

in the text below x stand for the 5 or 10 etc number
Only use x-40 oil x-30 oils are for very cold climates and where short runs are done.
don't use x-60 oil as its to thick for the pump its not used at all form memory x-50 is the highest used in the 172/182 engine and thats in very hot climates.

Millers xfs 5-40 would be my preferecne as its fully synthetic. rarther than the XSS which isn't.
