Went to buy a 197...

  182 Clio
I went to sell my 55 plate Clio 182, with cup suspension and spoiler packs, multi-changer CD, climate control and only 11400 miles.
I went to two local garages and wanted to upgrade to the 197 standard.
First got offered 8000 for my car, baring in mind that the garage is selling an 05 plate Clio 182, with 22500 miles on its forecourt for 9995!! I thought that the circus was in town!! They would not budge on this price. I tried to get money off the 197 price, but no gain there either. They wanted 16500. I explained that you can buy one on line for about 12500, so they told me to buy on line then!
Went to a second garage, and got offered 7200 for mine, which they moved upto 8200, but no money off the 197. I dug in and finally got my part ex upto 9500 but no movement on the 197.
Looks like I am keeping my 182 for a little longer.
I must say that the 197 was fantastic to drive and I can see why it is the pinnacle of the hot hatch group.

£9,500 trade in, and you wanted movement on price?

They are in it to make money you know!

If you insist on buying from a dealer, then sell yours privately and then use the 3 years 0% finance thing they've got. That's a manufacturer deal, so you can ring around a few dealers and see which one will also knock a bit off the list price.

But you would be better of just buyng online....

BTW, Parker's recommend £7120.00 as a trade in price, so the first offer you were given wasn't that bad really.

Why do you dummys still go to garages thinking you get a fair deal. The forecourt one was 2k more than your offer and you still sat there.

If you had commited to a sale they would of made 4k off you on the 197 and 2k on the 182.

6k for one afternoons work.Bloody hell.Wake up people

That is what I am going to do, been offered 9k cash.
Wanted to pay 13k for 197, which is more than they are being offered online but also want the security of a garage for the warranty.
It goads me that they could put a price on the car of 9999 and roll it onto the forecourt. Why not offer the 9.5k first, rather than the insulting 7.2k?
I know that they have to make money, but who ever pays the asking price?? Especially with the credit crunch!

ian 182, that's why I got up, after falling on the floor with the offer!!
The 0% is a good offer but they will not move on the list price for the offer.

Not quite as clean cut as that is it.

There are overheads and tax to pay.

-----------------------

Dealers can give you decent deals if you go to the right ones, but wanting 9.5k for a 182 and a brand new 197 for 13k is just stupid.

Try getting that deal online?? Ohh they don't do trade ins

Dude if someone has offered you £9k cash for your 182 take it now! Tear their arm out the socket!

Nice New Cars have 197's for 12995 but as you say, I can't trade in my own. I would suggest that NNC are making a profit on this, so why do garages have to ask for the extra 4k. I know that they have overheads (premises / employees) and have to sell my trade in, but no budging, and I even told them that I would for go the 0% and go for a low APR, but again no movement. They were interested in NNC's prices though!!

Calling people retards for wanting to save as much money as possible is just a bit out of order IMHO. Ok the guy might have been a bit unrealistic but there's no real need for the abuse...

The problem with selling the car is having wasters around your house and those little idiots who come back and break in once they see here the keys are and have reasons for having their prints in your house. But I suppose it is a balance between how much I want the 197.

They were bloody good trade in prices! My other half got offered £5000 from a dealer on an 05 reg 182, so I'd be pretty chuffed with any of those prices you got offered! Dealers have to make a profit you know ;)

Oh god another the dealer won't give me sale value for my car thread, and you can't buy a 197 for £12500
