Trophy Test Drive

Got to have a decent go in a mint condition Trophy today.

First of all, massive thanks to Steve, I don't know many people that would let a stranger take out there pride and joy, and then encourage them to go faster and faster!!

I was blown away by the car, such a different machine to a regular 172/182. I'd driven up in my 172, on some of the roads we would later drive on, and despite not really "knowing" the Trophy, was cornering a good 5-10mpg quicker. The car turns in instantly, no slack, no settling period. It stays flat, and the steering seems more 'alive' than in the 172. It's unbelievably composed over broken tarmac, tarmac that would have the 172 all over the place (due to the relatively poor body control).

To sum, it's by some margin the best hot hatch I've ever driven, and the search for a decent one has begun.

tbf I've recently heard on here that you should save your money and get a 1.6 clio instead. Just as fast around the twisties.

True. I believe that several 172cup owners are considering the switch, due to several humiliating twisty and track experiences.

Glad you liked it and fair play to steve for letting you in it
Yeah, was amazed to get the offer! And his is absolutely mint. TBF I didn't get close to the speed he was getting (probs around 59mph max;)), I was a little scared as a passenger, eye opening pace!

No worries at least now you can understand what all the fuss is about.
You also have an idea of what to look for;)
Tommy does go well & on roads like my test route i'm still amased how much you can push on;)

You also see my dilema as to what to replace him with:cry:

Nice to meet you.

...but why red, Renault!? WHHHHY!?

;)

ah yes SS, you got your splitter on yet?

meet on 5th june by the way, just down the road from you

there was a rumour it was meant be yellow, but they shat out of it, it was non metallic btw, kinda millenium product ones that ford did :dead:

heh. That solid yellow that Ford did the he Puma was a bit lame. The metallic yellow Renault do on the 182 / R26 / R27 is one of the best colours ever painted onto a car IMO. (although I could never have one!)

I just think that after the Williams and the Raider, Renault could have continued the blue theme. ;)

LY was already on the 182, and a dear option, so it was meant to be a flat colour. well so it was said anyway.

of course reno could have just gave the media a wee bump steer!

i do love the way renault say it's an exclusive colour yet it's avilable on most renault models (apart from the 172 / 182) it's that common it's available off the shelf in halfrauds

hmm hairy muff, lots of them in the 40-50k mile bracket, so good luck finding a nice one.

all vehicles ones are usually not bad, if a bit steep cash wise!

I thought the OE set up was for our great British roads, not track?:S and why most would change springs for track work?

Will be a few more for sale over next 6 months, warranty time. Only major worry I've heard of is the dampers going. There's a guy on cliotrophy that can rebuild them for ~£500.

lol at civilised! Birmingham aka Basra strip! No deal wee guy! I'm actually down with work next month!
