On a 1#2 the recommend times are 72K miles or 5 years old. Many would recommend 60K or 4 years on here though.

It’s a big job and a costly job

From an independent garage expect to pay around £450 -650 (172 cups a bit cheaper)

From a Renault dealership expect to pay £600- 1000.

Many chose to have the water pump replaced also as if the pump fails the whole belts job needs to be done again.

Do the alternator pulley while your there. If it fails then the spring can penetrate the belts and mess everything up. IF you get the alternator kit from renault (pulley and belt) it works out about 30 or 50 quid cheaper than buying just the pulley alone! (cant remeber which, but i remember being in shock at how stupid renault were) I was really glad i did mine. It was wrecked when i took it off. The cam belt on the 172 was a bit of an arse. I got my belt from ktec and all in all i was 450 fitted with an mot and new disks and pads but thats mates rates and helping :)

if you want the aux belt pulley you need to call renault- cheaper in a kit form not separate.

mate get what you want, but put it this way:
why go to all the effort to change the tensioners (cause the moneys in the labour) and then put an old knackered belt back on that costs 20 odd quid to replace just for it to slip or snap 100 miles down the road. If you dont change the belt your mad. It kind of defeats the purpose of a "cambelt" change. The belts more likley to snap or slip over the pulleys etc failing.
You may as well do as many things as you can with the front end off.

as said before in the other threads youve got about the cambelt kits, its important to do the aux belt pulley. i had a good look at mine and it was goosed. It can cause the belt to foul into the cam belt and make that fail too!
K tech dont seem to do the aux belt kit. call renault and find out how much their kit is. im sure its actually really well priced for once but the cam belt kit from k tech is about the cheapest ive seen. So you need both belts and all pulleys and tensioners. A good garage will make sure youve not forgotten anything.

how much would it be for a water pump and alternator kit, in terms of parts and labour?

  clio 172, pulsar, evo
ask a garage- we can only give you an idea. Ive never done a w pump on any car. look up some companies for the part seperate and then call round some garages you know. The cheapest isnt always the best.:)
