Canon 450D, or 40D?

After that, insurance have finally paid out to the sum of £500...

Just wondering, if to buy the 450D, and a battery grip, which is doable for just a tad under 500, or get a 40D body, and a lens, and pay a bit out of my own pocket?

The guy in work just got a 40d, I'm impressed with it.

I'd go for it over a 450d.

definitely go for a 40d, good jump up from the 350d and a bargain at the moment.

40D all day, just hold them both, you'll soon work it out. No point in buying a 450D + grip, just get the real thing to start with...

My next move. Still a bloody excellent camera and prices are falling all the time!

And the 50D isn't a leaps-and-bounds improvement.

definately the 40D, i would always pick that range (10/20/30/40/50) over the 350/400/450 range purely because of the build quality, you just cant beat a magnesium body compared to plastic one of the 450 range

I read that buy a 75 pound jobby and put the insurance money towards a new engine
