Cv boot leak around clip

Car  Jap Shed
took the wheels off today to change the springs and there was a sticky oily grease ererywhere, had a close look and the silver clip nearest me that holds the cv boot on was loose and could be moved by hand. the lube must have come out here because there was nosplits or damage to the cv boot, ia this somthing thats easy to fix?

Cheers!

na dont bother with a new one unless it is split. Get some moly grease, refil it and get a CV metal clip to go back on it (get them from most factors for pence)

So its called "Moly" grease? you just fill up the boot with it?

Yeah it happened to my 182, When your putting grease back in the Boot put it on the actually metal CV part not just in the rubber boot.
Thats what a sound Renault guy said to me.
Cost me about 5 quid for the grease and 2 quid for the Clip :)

Jubilee clip will prob catch the bottom of the strut/top of the hub, theres not much clearance.

when i was in th trade you can use chunky cable ties if your a lazy b*****d, dont make to much difference, plus the greese is avalible in single use sachets for bout 50p, dont by a tub, u wont use it enless you enjoy smearing it on your nipples!

great. cheers chaps, thought it was gonna cost a fortune to fix!

Nah - it's gone twice on mine. Even the Renault CV clip was less than a quid, iirc?

Silly design really - they should have done something better on that. I first noticed that something was amiss when my braking went to s**t. Clearly the grease had splashed over the front disc as well.

might visit Renault then.

i just use juilee clips on mine there is plenty of clearance. do it quite often at work with no problems. they last a lot longer than the nornal clips as you can get them to grip tighter

This happend to mine, had it regreased then closed with a cablie tie but ended up needing replaced

If grease has gone all over the inner rim of the alloy, then the best way to clean them I've found is a simple warm water mix with Fairy washing-up liquid and a cheap car sponge from Halfords. Comes off a treat, but be sure to give the alloy a good rinse afterwards.

I also washed an wiped my brake discs down as well. Again - make sure they are properly rinsed after.

but if you cannt see it whats the point?

Have the pleasure of cleaning mine tomorrow when I try and clean the grease which has spilled out.

Managed to get 2 100mm jubilee clips and wondering if they will be too thick to tighten the rubber boot to the shaft? The only ones my local parts centre had were 12mm.

Will these be ok? Have a nice big tub of Moly grease and wondering what is best to apply this?

If all else fails I shall have to get a new shaft I guess!

Many Thanks

ive just seen mine has went too, not sure if its split or anything!

is there a guide or can someone fire up a few pointers about this?

cheers
