water pump needs replacing

took the car to renault specialist earlier and he had the stephiscope(cant spell) out and said the noise coming from the engine was the water pump so i told him i want a cam belt kit, aux belt kit, water pump, dephaser pulley, antifreeze, oil and filter all filled. rang back just and he give me i price of £600 for the cam belt, aux belt and waterpump filled and 259 for the dephaser filled while it was apart. Total price £859

How come you are having the dephaser pully replaced, that making a noise too??
Is the noise from the pump constant or only when its cold?

the noise is there constantly mate. the car is on 91k now so thinking get it done while doing it all.

he doesnt know till he stripped it down but i was going to get the cambelt and waterpump done soon anyway. its a loud grinding and sqeeking. i had it a few months back but it went after a day.

but if its a common problem then surely it would be more of a risk leaving it knowing the car has done 91k without having one and could go within a few miles later.

dephaser isnt common on the sports, its common on the 1.4/1.6's IIRC

I'd argue that point, and isn't it only the very latest (as in this year) 1.4 and 1.6 that even have vvt??? I know the few 1.6 (k4m) that i've worked on havn't had it

Dephasers were introduced in 2002 on the k4m plus engine on the 1st megane 2's and are still there today.

1.4 k4j never had a dephaser.

well he said today he recommends getting it done. i decided to get the parts myself as i get trade discount. i got

rang another garage that do work for us and he said he will do all the work for me for 180including vat. booked in for monday.

Just make sure he has the right tools for doing the cambelt or your going to be on here in a few weeks asking how much its going to be for an engine rebuild....

hes only just done one within the last month anyways

had the car back tonight. it feels great and the 5k kick is better than ever. cant believe how quite the engine is now. recommend sherwins garage in stoke on trent to anyone in the area.
