New engine mount problem?

  R34 GT-R & 172 Cup
Been to my garage today and had a brand new renault engine mount put on as my last had gone.

Since doing this there is a vibration through the whole car all the time doesnt go away if you drive or park, to add to the problem there is a metal on metal rubbing/vibrating coming from the front drivers side near the alternator region.

Can anyone help?

Not to sure, but maybe it needs time to bed in? I would go back to the garage mate in all honesty, you paid for a service you do have rights to question the job

sounds like they have done something wrong there mate, if its the top one, you have to jack up the engine, so make sure they did this, as the engine can drop down and could cause a bit of damage

yeah does sounds like they have tightened it up without supporting the block. Make sure they have torqued them up correctly too (62Nm on all 8 bolts)

Yer the guy jacked it up looked a proper job, then soon as i started the engine it vibrated like mad! and never goes away. Iv got it booked in tomorrow for a free 1hour labour check.

The metal on metal coming from the alternator region anyone got any ideas?

If the engine is sagging then something will be rubbing down there. Fingers crossed he's not damaged your belts with the incompitance.

Oh god dont say that only had them replaced in Febuary, if he has the garage can pay for a new set...could it be anything else, like the aircon pipeing?

i had this when i changed my engine mounts drove me mad all it turned out to be is the manifold rubbing on the subframe will explain the metal on metal noise get the mechanis to slack upper cambelt side engine mount and upper gearbox mount and pull engine forward then re tighten what that will do is by pulling ti forward with dogbone mount connected it tilts the manifold up and out the way of the subframe simplesssssssssssssssssss

I always find its easier to take the 3 bolts from the engine mount side off aswell then you dont need to jack the engine up, just needs supporting.

That's what I did come to think of it. Place the mount in rough position, put the cam cover on, put the 3 bolts in and tighten slightly. Then adjust and tighten the mount itself. Middle first followed by the outside 4 bolts. tighten and make sure all 8 bolts are threading easily, then torque them up. 5 minute job really.

Yeah its just a lot easier taking the extra 3 bolts out rather than trying to jack the engine above the chassis mount.

I reckon Mattys about right. Probably just needs the engine pushing further back or forward.

shouldn't have to mess with dogbone etc though considering they haven't been messed with intially though.

Well took it to the garage, he losened the bolts and messed around with pulling it forward and backwards and the vibration has now gone, but i got extra vibration from the broke exhaust so hopefully when thats fixed it will be all fine.

The metal on metal came from the alternator, i took the front end of my car of and found that is had losened and droped on to one of the aircon pipes. Simple case of losening the bolt pulling up and tightening. Got a slight metal on metal but only when pulling of sounds like the manifold due to the broke exhaust.

Cheers for all your help
