arrrrgh tried LOTS of things now but can get flash player to work

this is why people use windows (sadly) as its a lot easier.

on the plus side i cant belive how fast it is and quiet on the disc access.. and also for some reason my wireless connection is now 100% and im getting 400kbs a sec where as on vista i get 120-200kbs and medium signal ?! i know it shouldnt matter but maybe the drivers are better ?

Yeah KDF is a unix master. If he doesn't know no one will. For the amount of people that use Ubuntu there must be a flash system for the net.

downloading tar.gz.for linux changed to read wright opened with the archiver, have a libflashplayer.so <- what to do with this ?

now.. i know people get defensive over technology these days, may it be a ps3 v xbox or pc, or iphone vs blackberry etc..

but really.. this sort of stuff should be straight forward and easy as an install.

i have added 0% new software to ubuntu today is the very first time i used it.

ok tried the gDebi package installer for linux.deb

says

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libnspr4-dev

ok, so read on the web run a command to install missing libraries.. it already has the right libraries ?

Mate its dead easy.. you are over complicating it :) if you're running a 32bit version just visit a website with flash in it (eg. youporn ;) ) and firefox will prompt you to install missing plugins.. select adobe and click next Job done.

If you have a 64bit version then its a bit different..
1. go here and download the flash plugin

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

2. extract the libflashplayer.so to your home directory (this is important !)
3. close firefox
4. open a terminal and copy/paste this command in to it and hit enter.

Code:
mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins && cp ~/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/

5. restart firefox.. now enjoy :)

Oh and to find out if you have 32 or 64bit installed open a terminal and type

Code:
file /sbin/init

Should output something like

Code:
/sbin/init: ELF [U][B]64-bit[/B][/U] LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.8, stripped

The important bit is in bold/underlined ;)

Is it fook.. i've had problems with windows systems it taken days to try and resolve.. and even then sometimes it needs MS to fix it and that takes years... and even then it doesn't fix the problem but just breaks something else lol !

Ubuntu is ridiculously easy..

Everything above can be done graphically.. I just don't do it that way.

If everyone used a Linux distro day in day out they'd complain that stuff was far too complicated to fix in Windows. The main reason most people find Windows easier is that they use it all the time. It all comes down to what you're used to.
