Tightening 1.2 Aux belt?

As its getting colder, When im starting my car in the cold at night its squeeling like a b**ch when im turning.

And also a little bit when its warmed up.

Is this becase its slipping or rubbing on something?

Where and what spanner (or else) would i need to slightly tighten the belt?

It was done with the cambelt last may i think so it doesnt need renewing.

1.2 16v non air con?

16mm spanner and 13mm spanner and lever the alternator back and tighten both bolts back up

no quite easy as above to do the alternator, a/c belt is a bit more tricky, u will need a torq 50 bit and i think a 17mm spanner to move the tensioner.

u need to loosen the t50 bolt, and move the tensioner with the 17mm spanner then tighten the t50 bolt back up whilst still holding the spanner in postition. Bit fiddly but im sure you will be fine.

So you undo the t50 bolt, And using the spanner as the torqueing (sp?) tool? you pull it taught then tighten up the t50 bolt?

Also will wd40 harm the belt? just wondering if a spraying will make it slip, Harm the belt or help in anyway at all? Im guessing its not needed.

that's right. Got a feeling it's a T45 not a T50, not sure though

no need for it, more likely to shorten the life of the belt

Had a look today, The tensioner is a bit tight to get to ! so i left it, The belt is fairly taught as it is.. Is it just a case of when its cold it will squeel? Some do, Some dont etc?

And also the lower pully is wobbling ever so slightly, Is this supposed to?

Anyone about the lower pully ?

Also seeing as the tensioner is at the top, Im supposed to use a spanner to pull the tensioner down, Could i just use my hand and push it sligtly down? while its un-done? that means i dont have to muck about with spanner in one hand ratchet in the other etc.

no, you need the spanner, it's on teeth and you wont get enough tension with just your hand.

you say THE belt, but there's 2 ;) have you checked both?

Dont know which one it is tbh.

Its too tight for me to get in there and do it? Surely needs jacking out?

Or am i just a pussy?

And also is the buttom big pully supposed to wobble slightly?

Cheers.

Just a quick question, I still havent done this because of the tightness where the pully is.

In my Haynes manual is says undo the Torx bolt, Then turn the spanner clockwise to slacken the tenstion on the belt?

Which way do i turn to tighten it? towards me as if im standing infront of the car?

cheers.

Which way would i turn to tighten it?
