Apple MacBooks and MBP

Car  Mondeo STTDCI
Whats the build quality like?

Is it leagues ahead of my Compaq Laptop?

I wont be buying yet, but wondered.

My Compaq is nearly 3 years old, and the fan is struggling, its giving out a heat, so I know it wont be long.....

Service is good, build quality is ok too, I disagree with the rubbish hard drives they use though!

The MBP in metal has a great build quality!

Night and day build quality wise. They are awesomely made.

The case is made from 1 slab of aluminum.

Hmmm. I do fancy it. But dunno it its worth the outlay. £500 every three years.

If I shelled out £1500 on one would it last 9 years. Doubtful. But they are so shiney.

Yeh lol!

Very robust machines - Would easily outlast its competitors. Main reason I bought one. Previously I was buying a laptop every 3-4 years at about 500 pounds a go (I wanted a decent spec one).

Iv had this MB 2 years (ithink?) and its still in A1 condition.

No point making a new one actually. I have a few of mine already.

Magic Mouse video. Definitely a must-purchase product.

Once you've gone Mac, you won't go back.

No but youd be able to sell it next year for a grand anyway :D

MB's are excellent quality, mine is nearing its 3rd birthday and its pretty much mint except damage i have inflicted on it. The best bit though is that it runs just like it did the day i got it, something i never had with any windows laptop.

Only downside is it never gives me a reason to upgrade, just cant justify it!

The battery life is also off the hook. The 17" will easily do 6 hours of browsing. More if you turn the brightness down uber low. I regularly see 7 hours of use on a single charge.

LOL at Chris' "Oh s**t". <3 MBPHero.

I'm considering one, but I can't justify the dorrah, even with my discount.

............Is this a serious question :S i have a 12 year old imac that will have a better build quality than a 3 year old compaq!!! FFS sorry but yea ummm theres kinda no comparison... at all lol

buy a 13inch one like i did. got mine stupid cheap.

police discounts give about 5% off too.

What's the big differences between the pro and the normal macbook?

Cheers Tom, I want to convert myself to Mac with a 17" pro.

And look like a work of art when not getting used. One does approve!

Cs has converted!

Will try and see what discount I can get before ordering.

Services? Fire/army/nurse?

Prison service maybe?

What about civil servants?

17" is overkill unless you're using it as a desktop replacement. It's not the most portable device in the World.

I've got a very well specified 15" MBP, and it does everything amazingly, and it's still portable.

Mine came to £1600 ish with student discount. It's near to £2k spec.

17" models only start at near £2k.

I was just thinking that Chris, it's not that much more expensive for 2 extra inches tho.

Is the Air macbook just an older plastic version?

£1,747.23

Is that the normal price or discounted?

My 13" is fine for

p**n/Internet/iPhoto/Hooking up to DA PLAZZZMAA and watching Glee.

And i have a MM and the rather sexual remote.

I have got a 13" unibody Macbook (2008 with removable HDD).

Its awesome! I can change the HDD to a 500gb one if I want and can also run 4gb ram which makes for a pretty powerful laptop for its size.

I'm thinking 15" could be the better idea. :)

The remote is a very very nice bit of kit, Tom.

The store and options you can pick are very very nice!

The Air is a slimline MacBook. Very light and compact. The drawbacks being there's no optical drive, and 2GB RAM, that's not expandable.

A well-specced 15" Pro would sort you out. Same as mine. Mine's a late 2009 Unibody.

My price of £1600 was after the discount. It's a £2k device.
