Taking a clio off the road??

Car  Nothing at the mo :(
Car is being taken of the road from the 1st of july for a few months, plus the tax runs out at the same time

do i just have to declare sorn and nothing else?

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

Declare as SORN yep. Nothing else to worry about, aslong as you're fine leaving it without insurance

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

yeah it will be fine, it will be on the driveway

it may be there for a fair few months *6 maybe?* Shall i just leave it in gear and of the brakes?? Then whenever im up there il just start it for a while

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

Mines been off the road since january, just sorn'd and kept in garage.

I've been looking after it though.

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

well my plan is to give it a good wash/clay/wax/sealant shizzle so its sparkling clean.. Buy one of them car covers and just leave it covered..

Then when im up the inlaws for the weeked il just drive it down the road and back just to keep things running smooth :)

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

If you're worried about it being broken into or vandalised, some insurance companies offer "static car insurance" policies for cars that are declared SORN. The idea is that you aren't insured to drive it on the road, but are still covered for any acts of theft or vandalism that occur while it's parked up on your own property. They're fairly cheap too - around £30 to £60 per year apparently.

Re: Taking a clio of the road??

As above, personally i think you'd be stark raving bonkers not to insure a car worth £5k ... id stick it on axle stands as well, would save the tyres from going flat & being damaged.

The reason is being taken of road is cause we are moving into our new flat..

until we are settled in we dunno if the RS would be worth insuring or not based on how much extra cash we have a month

So insuring it on a drive would be pointless considering i could just insure it here and use it..

The main reason is compromise

The misses wants to sell it to make way for some cash + She moans about the running costs

I have said i will take of it the road so it will cost nothing, If it comes to a point where we need cash then i will sell it.

but for the sake upf a few quid to have it insured you may not have a car to sell if/when the time comes that you need cash!!!
maybe a lot easyer to just sell it now, and should you find yourself settled financially by the end of the year, buy another.......

lol Buy another? Mines running in top notch condition, Nothing is wrong with it at all.. I actually have no reason to sell at this time if i can easily store it on the gf's mums drive.

A few quid is 70-80 notes a month, When your a tight budget it might not be possible

Like i said, Storage on the drive is only until we settle in and we can work out our monthly budget on things, Its out first time getting a flat so we don't know what spare cash we will have free yet at the end ot the month

Ok, tell me where you'll be storing it & ill 'look after it' for you ...

Trust me, look into a static policy. You'll cry like a baby if someone sticks it on the back of a low loader in the night. Losing £5k is not conducive to saving money.

lol, this car aint being stored in brixton lol

Pointless starting it. It'll do more harm than good.

Garage, plastic mats under the wheels, brakes off, in gear.

Concrete absorbs moisture and causes your tyres to perish if left for very long periods unattended. More than six months normally, but it's not effort to do it as a precaution.

Not got an old set of floor mats from a car? The shitty rubber ones?

Tesco will sell 'em for less than a tenner.

right so floor mats.. on grass.. drive on

Will that be ok? Cause if i can park it on grass then it will be constantly blocked in by a car and a wall lol
