Engine knocking, removed black section at back and its fine, what does it do?

Hi,

Engine was rattling and knocking so ive ripped off a black metal box type thing from the back, it can be put back on easily enough though.

Its at the back in the middle, basically right next to windscreen wipers.

Black metal looking box that clips onto something.

Taken I off and rattling and knocking has stopped, just wondering what it was and if it should go back on lol.

Hopefully I have explained it in enough detail for someone to know.

Keep it off, all it does is destroy the wiring underneath.

If it goes through the wiring the car tends to either over rev, or go into limp mode.

Ahh that was the cause of that problem before too then, good that its off now!

Aye keep it off, hae a swatch at the wiring and it is starting to show just wrap it up in electrical tape to be on the safe side.

No sorry, its basically a square peice of metal, about 5mm in thickness, maybe less. Black in colour, right at he back of then engine bay towards the center. Its obvious what it is when you see it

Can you see it from above then or do you need to be underneath?

Sounds like the metal guard that goes around the FBW throttle assembly.

No idea really, cars been fine though so doesn't seem to important.
