Stock and After Market Exhaust, Welds/Welding?

Couple of questions:

Removing the stock system tomorrow and fitting a Milltek system.

A friend recommends that the cat is welded to the back box and the other end of the cat onto the down pipe from the engine.

Is this necesary? Obviously I don't want it to blow however I'm expecting to have to change it back to standard when I come to sell the car so having to remove a system welded on (and also finding somewhere to weld it in the first place) is a bit of a PITA.

I'll be using some high temperature silicon sealant wherever there's a join/clamp and will do as good a job as we can to minimise the chances of any blowing.

Also would I be right in assuming that the stock system isn't welded in or together at the cat or downpipe? Unable to see much from where the car is parked at the moment!

Any other tips or advice for tomorrow morning are welcome!

Thanks

As far as I'm aware the Cat's are bolt on, but I could be wrong?

Just had a quick look and could see a clamp on one end of the Cat so think you're right.

Probaly a very silly question but I have the downpipe then a round cyclinder with what looks to be a small sort of breather tube/pipe coming off, then the cat and then the back boxes. What's this round thing? Something to do with the Lambada sensor?

A pictures would be useful...

Usually on a 182 you have: manifold 4-2-1 with the 1st lambda at the end of it, cat with the 2nd at the end, and then the catback.

I think the round think your talking about is the cat, it has 2 bolts wirth springs near the engine and then a round clamp the other end.

Then follow that down and you have a centre box, then piping over the rear beam into the back boxes.

You have 2 bolts at the manifold then a shitty clamp at the cat centre section joint. I had my cat cut and welded to my prospeed centre section and is much better no leaks from the clamp

you wouldn't be able to weld stainless to mild steel in anycase. just make sure the two flanges line up ok, best to undo front of cat from manifold first

Why would you not be able to weld mild steel to stainless?

You can .

But it will be crap and prob crack later.

you can with right wire.

disimalar wire.

as long as it has iron in it you can use mild steel wire lol

Dont weld the cat.
BUT, if i were you i weld some spots on the centre-backbox joint.
On Clio's (mine btw), there is only 1 exhaust mount, and with shitty clamps, it can twist, and will not look good.
This is just my opinion, and im sure someone else will tell you differently.
