Re: No Compromise ph1 ITB build (Fastcar, BTM, TDF, RS Fab) - ITB update p77

I drove mine with the PAS pump diverted for a while.. but didn't feel "right" you where constantly pushing, holding the wheel to keep it where you wanted.. you where effectively turning your arms and steering wheel into the PAS pump ;)

Re: No Compromise ph1 ITB build (Fastcar, BTM, TDF, RS Fab) - ITB update p77

it drove perfectly straight, but just didnt feel nice when turning, way to heavy forcing the PAS rack with no pump

I suppose if your driving the car everyday all over the place it could become a bit of a pain with the steering being heavier but with my car its now just my track car so only really going to get driven at tracks.

mine is not my everyday car....so thats not the issue....
am unsure on the pikey spec rack.... is there no standard manual rack that is not more turns lock to lock?

There are quite a few people that have done what i said. Its not pikey, just think of it as re-engineering the part you allready have, not bodging it.

I mean its your car/project but you can either do it the way mentioned above to the cost of some chemical metal (£5) or spend £50 on another rack which will do excactly the same thing.

great project man. btw how hard is it to wire that digital dash? will it just run off the ecu or do you need to do any hard wiring for the sensors?

i am not 100% sure how hard it is to wire yet, shouldn't be too bad however as you say it does need wiring into a fair few sensors. I will be going back up to Tour-De-Force for this to be wired in anyways as there are a few other little tweaks i am looking into...

so i have had another 2 days on the clio, however there isn't really that much to show for all the effort that was put in...i went down to the unit unsure what i was going to do, i looked at it for a fair while and then thought i may aswell tackle the remnants of the tar patches, this would take me basically all weekend, but atleast most of it is out of the way...

under the scuttle.

then i decided to remove all the plastic trim clips.... no point in a picture of this really.
so that was my weekend, i think within the next 2 weeks it will be off down to caged again to have a dash bar welded in...yay

Getting rid of tar is such a ball ache, hated doing mine.

Not sure if your really bothered but if you remove the handbrake it seperates into two pieces and it doesnt need both bits. The second bit is for the plastic housing to clip onto. Saves 0.5 kg but the main thing is it looks much tidyer with the second bit removed. Still bolts back in the normal way. I think i have a picture in my thread if you look.

I like the colour of the Skyline the most.

Poly window are sooooooo expensive arnt they! Like 400-500 quid for a set of 5 with the decent bits on like the balck boarded and the thremo forming thing.

I'm by no means a CS hater. But for a 'No Compromise' build, your car is incredibley girly compared to Laxy/Conlon/F0xy/Whiteley's.

Just sayin'.

i do like that comment, its almost a challenge, i would disagree but my view is based on how i see it in my head, and as it stands on here i would probably agree a little, the way it stood before it started to be stripped it was still my daily driver, now its not, it will be going alot more hardcore, i will rise to your challenge....

As above, can't wait to see the new plans unfold and be updated.

One of the threads I always take the time to properly check and read up on regularly; very comprehensive build! :approve:

ahhh finally found your blog! things look very nice.. i have the same dash2 unit in my car.. Matt @ TDF was saying you`ve been looking at the cage in the black clio thats sometimes at his?? if your still after something that full on i can reccomend a couple of places that can build to your requirements or alternatively i have a "custom cage" in mine which is very similar and other than a couple of issues with there aftersales help the actual cage is immense...

this is my french bean tin:

Photo1057.jpg

still lots to do but its geting there.. so far ALL the fabrication (cage/shell repairs/fuel tank/modified turret tops/gear linkage/dash) has been done by me but TDF (whos ecu it will run) will be doing wiring and breathing life into the ol girl...

with regards to the cage theres still a few more gussets (doorbars) and stuff i want to add but you get the idea.. i use to have a OMP bolt in and although its perfectly acceptable a full on weld in is the only way to go..
