Better 'by hand' polish than SRP?

  BMW E46 330i Touring
I've been out of the detailing game since getting fed up in the summer and flogging my polishing kit. However, I want to build my supplies up for the summer when I'll do a bit of casual car cleaning / detailing for nearest and dearest...

So, has the hand polishing game moved on from SRP yet? It'll be going under Jeffs Acrylic Werkstatt (or whatever it's called now) and maybe a bit of Vics Concours. Glaze seems popular nowadays but how does sealant / wax sit on top of this?

Depends on how far you wanna go for things to be moving on. Its all about your budget. Hand application using SRP is still a popular choice among lots of people who want a good shine, hiding a few swirls yet for a small price. Glazes are now popular to make a perfect foundation for either a wax or sealant to go on top and boost gloss. If you decide to get a glaze, make sure u check around first as not all glazes will take a certain sealant due to the oils in the glaze, therefore beeding and sheeting results will be very poor.

Spot on.

But to also move on from SRP, look into P1 with a hand applicator, or my personal favourite 203s from Menzerna, with a Lake County Orange Hand Cut pad;

As Lew has mentioned, SRP is a great allrounder as it has minor polishing particles but also fills the rest of the swirls. So if you want to step up, you might be looking at two products (a better polish and a glaze).

If you don't fancy SRP then Poorboys Black Hole is another option.

It's great at filling swirls (by machine, better than SRP IMO) and it is acrylic based so your Werkstatt AJT will bond nicely on top

i have srp and black hole. I really like black hole especially on dark colours. I use werkstat sealant with it and works great.

Cheers boys.

JD - cars will be VW, Jag, Volvo, Kia, probably Ford and most likely a few French rattle cans.

I dot expect to necessarily achieve correction on all those by hand, but good to get an idea of what's around. Will have a look at Black Hole and Menz also.

But it doesn't contain any abrasives, so we still need a polish :)

Almost doubling up there, but I have done it before.

Another +1 for Black Hole.

So a fair mix of car paints and hardness. Look at 203s with a hand pad, backed up by a decent filler glaze, (Clearkote/Poorboys range).

I used 203's on that last detail JD and beside P1 it wins hands down, P1 by hand is very good.

SRP needs the bin.

Ads i'll sell you my P1. ;)

So...

Menz PO203S or P1 followed by
PB Black Hole or CK Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze
then my Vics Concourse?

Or will I need a sealant after the glaze to provide better protection than the Vics?

Let us know the trick for the P1 Gally! :) I've PM'd the guy on DW for a discount...

Vics will be fine mate. Also consider Chem guys EZ creme glaze.

BH will hide a lot though so go with that by DA if possible.]

I wouldn't use 203's by hand unless it was for a very small area.

No need for the sealant pal, Vics will do nicely! You'll love Gal's trickery ;)

I love 203's by machine! 203's by hand I thought P1 was more suited. I'll give the 203's a try mate. :)

Trickery is awesome! ;)

Yeah that C4 you sent me... i'll mail you.

The PO203S ive found to be exellent used with my rotary but by hand, if found it a lot harder to brake down due to it being well lubed. Id say the 106FA was better for my needs. The cut is slightly less (ever so slightly) but the gloss is much higher and in your face. It depends how bad the paint is really. Never used the P1 but i believe by hand is very good. The 106FA alone with a wax will be more than what you expected but with a glaze thrown in too, results especially on whites and silvers have been astonishing. Again i guess its down to the condition of the paint. Ive just recieved my Blacklight, Virtua Bond and the V7 synthetic stuff today. Will be testing at weekend hopefully

The V7 seems pretty dam good if you ask me JD. sprayed sparingly, then after one wipe of spreading around the area it seemed to turn into an oily substance and then disappeared within 10 seconds. Folded the towel over and gave a quick buff. Effortless if you ask me mate. Result on my blue was very good and looked wet. will do another coat tomorrow and try a little water test as its under a sealant based product. Lew

Its down as a spray sealant but for the price i think the main factor of it is its boost in gloss over any wax or sealant but results on its own are very good too, although i believe it has good protection, durable properties. Id say it is very good value for money. I put it over the wolf body wrap sealant that i applied a bit ago. Makes it look like glass and the shine is very wet.

Ah read up on that wolf sealent last week I was very very impressed with the review and video. How does it perform?

The V7 stuff sounds good might have to get a hold of some.

Put another coat of v7 on yesterday on top of the aquartz that was no longer beading and now sheeting quite poor. It rained over night so i had a look this morning. To my suprise there were beads there!!! Not tight ones but were big and shaped nicely. This could be down to it being on a ceramic coating but ill give it ago on my other halfs car at weekend. As for sheeting, wasnt like a high end wax or sealant as expected but the full bonnet was dry in less than 10 seconds.

The panel that had the wolfs nano wrap on was beading and sheeting very well. Definately more gloss but the results of the wolfs stuff is superb on its own. Mite have to get myself another bottle before they run out, lol

Its awesome stuff mate. The bottle is small but when used with cotton pads, 2 drops will do a panel easy as its just like water. Had it on one side of the car for just over a month now with no change what so ever. The other side i used the wolf polish sealant and then the wolf body wrap sealant. Results are still the same as the other side but with the 2 used together, expect upto 12 months i believe! The gloss from the nano wrap on its own is just crazy.

With a sealant that durable, don't you get a bit gutted that you can't try any other products for that long!

Part of the fun for me is stripping back and giving the paint an overhaul because the existing protection has worn off.

I wouldnt say gutted as i have recently taken on a little too much work to handle so for me its a big bonus that i dont have to do mine quite so often. I guess its also a good thing that you dont have to keep stripping back as often as some products are a pain such as the aquartz ceramic sealant. With it being chemically resistant to almost everything, only compounding will ensure a guaranteed clean surface, which would end up leaving you with no clearcoat within a year, lol

Lol, yeah I guess it's a bit different if you do it all the time to other people's cars! Also, the average non-enthusiast who jut wants a shiny car must love an easy product like that.

Lew just noticed your in Manchester buddy - would be good to meet up. Yet to see an Albi 200 up close.

Thanks for that mate, i'll have a look.

That's the way I work Ads I love trying new stuff, i'll never apply super sealents other than winter mate.

12 months ago I would also have agreed. Nowadays, I barely have time for the Panzer, let alone any others, so super sealants have become more interesting.

To come back to the glaze/sealant bonding: ClearKote Red Moose Machine Glaze is a oil based glaze. Just for your/topic starters information :)
