timing out by 6 degrees?

  182
the 182 had its major srvice yesterday and when i went to pick it up today i was told the timing had been out by 6 degrees...just wondering why this could have been?
the car does feel more responsive and faster now, would being out by 6 degrees make this noticable?

...just wondering why this could have been? its poss that when some one who put u a belt or what ever last time had not used the setting bar in the cams propperly ie.... belted it up+ tenshon it up with out slacken the cam pullys off, put the crank pin in turnin it on to the pin then puttin the setting bar in the rear one then forcing it down into the front one.

also if after u time it corectly then move the tenshoner ie tighter after tightening the pullys that will pull the cams back a touch

its the first time the belts had been changed, however, they said the water pump they took off had numbers scratched off it, meaning its not a factory part, although it was still a genuine renault part...as far as im aware this had never been changed

would love to know how they measured 6 degrees, i'd suggest a whiff of "b****cks" as to give such a precise figure is, erm odd

mmm strange then, dont know why he woud make it up though and like i said it does feel like it has more power than before it went in
what kind of measure woud be normal to be able to tell Fred?

the water pump (rare it needs changing, i've done 3 in 10years) will be made in the same factory, non OE suppliers simply grind off the renault part number, its possible yours slipped through, either that or the bloke didn't know what he was looking at

basically its a huge job to meauser the timing down to an acutal degree reading, its either bollock on perfect or its not, how they can say its 6degrees out is odd to me, are they reffering to cams or crank? who knows?

could have been out by 6 degrees on the crank/flywheel marks once the cam tool was in ;) depends if they started with top or bottom end

so say the water pump has been changed previously, would ther be any reason fot i? i bought the car on 24k 3 year old and have owned it since...
tbh mate im note sure, he did jot down on some paper what he was explaining to me about the part he was on about which showed why the timing out but i cant exactly remember...he mentioned something about the point it should be at, then it goes up 2, 4 6,8 or 2,6,8.......not sure if that makes any sence?

I didn't say it was accurate, dont be all hissy about it.

Pretty easy to read off error in degrees from the angle markings on the gearbox though

prosume he just meant about 6 then? i dont know how the "degrees" part of timing works....what kind of degree could it go up to?

that picture i put up shows the flywheel lined up with the 0 degree's line, ie it's at top dead center, your man is saying the crank/fly was approx 6 degrees out from this alignment. The close together lines in the picture are 1 degree apart ;)

ah rite, so if it has been 6 derees out, would this have done anything badand am i right in noticing the car feeling a lot more responsive now?
