would this work.. airbox design

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
basically on the old golf i have not alot of room for filters on the bike carbs untill i get the manifold modified, to put the usual filter socks on the trumpet stumps is going to severely limit the air to the carbs. i seem to remember that carbs work better with air flowing better acorss them rather than directly into them.. i might have made that up. so i was thinking of fabricating something like
honda-k20-carbon-fibre-airbox.jpg
with some ducting then something like a cone filter behind the grill?

this is the carbs so the box would have to sit at an angle not nice n straight like the box above

God knows how you will get a filter on that, no chance of tilting the engine back?

no it needs teh manifold modifying to bring it more in line, but i cant have that done for a while yet so need to work something out for now. the current carbs trumpets are like this

the box would go like this

bonnet bulge or scoop would make this a lot easier.

You might even get cooler air in that way too

these have never been run with full trumpets prevously so that doesnt worry me too much untill the manifold is changed.. as for butchering the bonnet on a mk1 golf.. no ta haha,

it'll be pretty rubbish without the trumpets, but shallow sausage filters are available that I think would fit

make your life easier, and mod the manifold straight away. It'll save you a world of headaches

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
i cant as the machine shop cant do it for a couple of months and i need to MOT the car to get it in its winter garage where i can take the manifold off and leave it with the machine shop

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
you think?
IMG_5557.jpg
think i can shorten the manifold myself, wont effecvt the angle but should bring it down a bit

trouble you've got is, you've chosen carbs. They have to be angled like that for the float chambers to sit correctly

bit extreme, but can you not make some spacers etc and lower the engine in the bay by a few inches, i'm sure you're not as low as winston!

no they are at the complete wrong angle as it stands now, they are ment to be as close to horizontal as possible but bog bros insist that they are fine at this angle and they are the specialist so i belive them, i just dont think they accounted for the angle at which the engine sits in the bay

loads of mk1 bonnets around, cut it up.

i need a airbox or filter of some sort for my caddy, but need as much air flow as possible...

Start fresh, they are at a stupid angle.

Then fab up a plenum with the space at the back as with most ITB cars.

Last thing OP wants their modifired GOof to look like is.... a modified golf?

Chop that bonnet, add bulge and scoop!

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
coz a bonnet bulge would look shite and pikey and completely un nessicary sp* bot to mention a s**t load more work than just having the manifold modified

  CBR1K, F21 125D
My bad, didn't glance at the bodys long enough to get the part # either..

Still applies.

A scoop I can understand not liking. But a bulge, that would look good IMO. Especially if it is actually required, not just done for looks.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
there is no need for a buldge tho, the work involved would be intense and expensive, when compared the cost of having the manifold ajusted is minimal, the scuttle gets full of leaves, its not sealed so would be worse

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
Goodj... have you read the thread at all... i need to come up with something temporarily to get the car on the road and MOTd so i can move it to its winter storage space... about 10 miles away.. at which point i can take the manifold off and get the machine shop to do the work .. as they have a long waiting list
