Brakes and how to.

  Dirty MK5 Golf.....
Hi all im changing the brake pads on my girls 52 plate 172 iv managed to get the caliaber off and the old pads out but icant seem to get the piston to move back so that i can get the new pads in. I done the front a few days back and i just pushed the piston back in to the caliaber with ease with no problemes. Any ideas....

I assume your talking about the rear brake pads ? The piston winds back in clockwise unlike the fronts that just push back in . Get yourself a piece of square bar or screwdriver that will fit in the slots and turn a few times . You don't need to take the caliper off . You have to remove the split pin , then knock outwards the little 90 degree piece of metal that hold the pads and remove the spring clips . Fitting is the reverse :)

Actually, it might be hard as the fluid has reached the top of the reservoir, might help to unscrew the cap.

+1, No need to remove the calipers to change disks or pads either, You only have to remove the carriers if you're changing the disks, Nothing if just the pads.

take it you are using a screwdriver or similar across the notches and not trying to do it with your fingers? Should go easy unless they're sticking
