anyone got pics of the new more expensice Spax the 519 sell??

I have these fitted but dont have any photos yet, I can say though that the ride is much nicer than the gaz ones I had previously and still feel nice in the bends :) will get some photos up when I get a chance.

thank you :)

would you say it has better feel with this setup?? and also does it compare to standard cup setup??

They are a deffinate improvement over the std cup setup (I had std shocks with eibach proline on), and with the spax setup is both sharper to drive and rides better.
They do appear to be a nice setup.

thats good then its gonna be hard choice for me picking between the B14s and the Spax :s

I never drove mine with standard setup, but these feel 10x better than the crashy Gaz ones that were on there before.

and thats good to hear too as i went in a 172 cup with an expensive GAZ setup and it was really horrible tbh :S

coilovers with custom rear springs, 16' wheels, 45 profile tyres, around 100mm...

some other custom rear springs, rest same as above, more than 100mm...

EPIC car is EPIC :hail:

Hi Guys, Is there a good shock and spring setup for a ph1 172 without going to coilovers or am I best sticking to standard and then getting something like the spax 519's? The car has been bought to be mainly run as a track toy so I am only really concentrating on good tyres which are sorted, brakes which are done or on their way in the post to me and suspension. If I get the braking and handling right I'll be fast enough. SO just need your views if there is anything better than the standard suspension that won't cost me £800.

you'd be looking at around £500 for a good shock and spring combo.

The £699 spax option is very much well worth considering still

it's valid. Personal taste if you like them really. I do have a number of people mentioning they're not different to standard by any moticable margin which they're disappointed with

Thanks for the response, I think I'll get the rear lower arb, maybe front and rear upper (not sure the difference they will make) and sort the brakes and then worry about the suspension later.

Clio mk3 07 plate 1.2 got apex lowering springs 30mm but compressed another 30mm, ordered Koni sport dampers, anyone know some decent after
Market brakes?

ello mate, have u got 17" alloys? if so thats what i was going to get for my clio but didnt kno whether id need lowering springs or not, the gap you have is what id want and there standard springs arent they? - Rich

  172 Cup
Rather than bothering with ride height, does anyone have spring rate specs of these aftermarket springs?
What I'm wanting to know is-
172cup spring rate
182 cup spring rate
172/182 Eibach Pro kit spring rate
172/182 Eibach Sportline spring rate
172/182 Apex spring rate
172/182 Koni Spring rate

I just need the spring rates, I can work out the ride height drops from that and any geometry changes that may occur.

Incase this wasn't known info, Eibach Pro Kit springs are designed to offer a slight ride height reduction, slight increase in spring rate, and most importantly, work with the OEM dampers.
The Sportline kit increases the ride height drop with a similar spring rate, but should really be used with shortened dampers.
Infact, any ride height drop of more than about 35/40mm should normally be accompanied by shorter dampers.

I use the term damper and not shock absorber because technically, a spring is a shock absorber, dampers are there to dissipate the energy from the shock/spring.

Any lower on springs then 40 you'll ruin your shocks. Get either sportlines for ride or apex for looks. If you want to go low then coilovers it is.

here here lol! I agree with the damper/ shock absorber terminology. I'm a MOT tester and even on the computer it (wrongly) refers to "leaking shock absorbers" .I find it quite irritating. I cant help you with the spring rates I'm sure the manufacture website must have it somewhere buddy

as it states in my post... I am trying to gain ground clearance and distribute weight over a larger footprint. Thanks for answering a question with a question even after I addressed your question in my original post. Brilliant. Thanks for the bump though!!! Any takers on the original question???

I've gone back 4 pages and can't see any posts from you.

So again, why would you want to make it any higher? :S

Post before yours says why.

I'm not sure there is an option apart from going custom or maybe Clio rally suspension. Anyone know how high coilovers can go over standard height?

Well firstly, increasing the height of the car will not distribute the weight any differently, whether your car is 10cm off the ground or 1M off the ground each wheel will share the same amount of weight regardless of height.
If this is what you want to do you need to either increase the width of your wheels/tyres, increase the vehicle track, or lengthen the wheel base.

If you want to increase the height then you could fit air suspension - but for that price just buy a different car...

  Derv 65, MPG > BHP
Would anyone happen to know what would happen if I were to use springs designated for other engine sizes on a 1.5 dci? I figure they will need to be for the same marque (mk2 ph2), and some say "except 1*2 and 16v" for example, but is there much of a difference?
I'm talking to a guy breaking his 172 and I can get the nearly new springs for cheap, but obviously I'll give them a miss if they aren't a workable match.

They're 40/50mm he said, which I'm assuming is 40 back 50 front? That seems like a big difference from what I've seen tbh. Will I also need to upgrade my shocks to accommodate a >50mm drop?

Thanks :)

  AB 182
Looking for advice on springs. Got a set of 172 wheels but unsure whether to go 40mm or 60mm any pics knocking around?
Thanks :)

Anybody used apex springs with Koni adjustables?
The Koni shocks are great. But you'd be better off using Eibach or Cooksport springs with them. Also, it says under your name you have a FF. The koni's are only available in 54mm bolt spacing.

Aw right I didn't realise cheers, just started thinking about coilovers so not done too much research yet. Was guna pm someone selling them but you've saved me the hassle! So far Gaz fast road seem like a good set up for around £500
