Focus ST v Clio 182

Like i said in another thread...

Cs is going down the s**tter.

Since before 2011.

Torque, from mid range. Didn't just happen once, happened all the time until he remapped the focus, so sort of beyond question really bud, if you were there, and it didn't happen, I'd probably take your point, but....
20 seconds to 100 from a tuned 5 cylinder 2.4 Turbo diesel with variable geometry turbo, 2 second overboost and almost 300lb/ft torque?! Pull the other one!!!! ;)
Told you at 135 the ST pulled past, started closing the gap probably from about 110 onwards probably.
Alfa smashed him, until almost flat out, end of, not any more to say really mate, not going to argue about it :D

Happy discussing dude but it's not possible, even with 300lbs. My last car was a diesel running approx 200hp and 300lbs/ft, and was lighter and that wouldn't smash a Focus ST. I reckon it would be a touch quicker in gear but that's it. I'm pretty sure the ST has a 5 cylinder 2.5 litre turbo with variable geometry with 240lbs/ft, so not exactly lacking in midrange push. I'm not saying this Alfa is slow but it cannot smash an ST in any shape or form, whether 0-60, 0-100, in gear or top speed with only 180 and 300.

Feel free to prove me wrong though but it's not beyond question when there is nothing that you've said that makes sense.

Blimey dont come here often but f**k me the immature comments!

Id say focus ST would be faster.

Round some tracks the 182 would be faster.

Not a great deal in it tbh.

2.5 turbo and heavy

Or 2.0 n/a and light...

On the road id prefer focus

On track id prefer 182

GTFO with your reasoned adult opinions!

It's purely a reference to power/weight. Same bhp/ton. More lbs/ton yet he has promised to tear me a new asshole in his AMG.

I'd say say the brands Indy the 182 would be the best choice as that's more about handling and nimblity of the car and carrying speed round corners, and turbo lag will have an effect (depends on car and driver). But the GP with the added straights the ST with the higher BHP and torque figures would win it. That's with a little added motorsport knowledge.

Ive just done the rs tuner map thingy magig and there is no way the st would beat mine, seriously quick now. Example- my drive to work takes 8 mins including light traffic. This morning with heavier than normal traffic and stopping for petrol it took 6mins 12 secs, taking into consideration the lights were also against me.

Unfair challenge as St has modern techs for handling and power, which outweighs all advantages of the GSI. Plus torque figures are all in ST's favor

ST don't carry cup packs, only specialized tuning form certain companies. yh clio's have cup packs but added power can be added and tuned by K-Tech.

My mate got 25bhp from a k-tech induction kit and back box. His 172 is rapid, or should I say his 197 ;)

What if the ST has RS package?

I agree that a re-mapped and tuned clio would win as weight to power ratio will increase and a STANDARD ST wouldn't hava chance, however if u do the same to each then would the result be then?? probz be alot closer between them i guess.

But your clio sounds lovley!!

Bugger. Knew i should have bought that map. I would have put up with the annoyance of it if someone had told me that. Ah well live and learn.

I went out in a mapped st at the weekend there for the first time running 312 bhp & 340 lbft of torque. Absolute animal and handled surprising well for a heavy motor, fell in love with the noise too.

Yeah there used to be a black one by my work, obviously modified but sounded awesome even going slowly.

Vs threads are pony anyway, too many contributing factors... Main one is the driver.

At Oulton Park the other week there was a guy ranting in the pits at another guy saying it was a 'trackday, not a race'. The guy he was moaning at was an obvious seasoned track driver, E30 caged up... Slick tyres etc. The guy shouting his mouth was a fat middle-aged guy with a Focus ST covered in stickers from various tuning companies and owners clubs, clearly a modified car. On track, however he was SLOW AS F*CK and did not have a clue... Everything was going past him.

agreed, anyone who says "they dont handle that great" hasn't driven one, of course its not as razor sharp as a clio RS, it isnt ment to be. i love them! never had the pleasure to drive an RS.

Depends which one, but yeah pretty much. The only way anyone can really tell how a car handles is surely on a track.
