DCI issues

I currently have a friend with a DCi 65 clio , he says its struggling to get up hills feels like its holding back then it goes and pulls fine ?

i've not had a chance plug it in but not got much experience on these old clio dervs, just wondering if there's anything common before I start going in to detail ?

I know they are slow anyway but it's not that he says it feels hesitant, even needs to drop to first to get up banks , it revs free enough , no odd noises and passed MOT emissions today , also no MIL !

Cheers boys !

Air leak on the fuel line push connectors. EGR valves on these cause alsorts of power loss ect.
Only other things it could be is faulty fuel pump or injectors , either which I doubt
