Oh my bad, thought the PS4 was £399.

If your friends are jumping ship then fair enough.

Regardless, Sony had best get it right this time round as they can't afford to throw away any more $$$.

It's horses for courses. As I said earlier the only console I currently have is the 360 however I jumped to Microsoft from having a PS2 previously.

Microsoft have annoyed me this time around with things like kinect and no 2nd hand games. I swap a lot of games with mates and quite often buy games on release, play them through once and then get rid of them on ebay. This obviously only relates to single player games that I normally only complete once - assassins creed etc. I obviously keep continually played titles like battlefield and forza.

It's each to their own I guess, but Microsoft have gotten too many things wrong this time round leaving me little option but to jump to Sony. I'll probably end up back at Microsoft if they get things right with future console releases down the line.

I think MS will see a lot of people switching. Imagine how many kids swap games with their mates/trade in at shops. They/their parents won't be buying them new games constantly.
MS will change their policy once they see numbers drop IMO but it might be too late by then.

I don't understand all the Kinect 2 hate. The demos they've given of it so far have been awesome, plus you're going to finally be able to use it in a space smaller than a cargo hanger.

I'm off to play Disneyland Adventures \o/

Interesting!

"If Kinect senses too many people in the room, it will prompt the users to upgrade the license."
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a484593/xbox-one-to-monitor-tv-viewing-content-watched-number-of-viewers.html

Xbox One will monitor users' content viewing in a number of ways.

Microsoft's next-generation console has applied for a patent offering users Xbox 360-like achievements for watching specific content and adverts, reports Gamesindustry International.

The console's Kinect 2 will also employ DRM measures to prevent more people than the license allows viewing the content at one go, as per another patent filed last year.

If Kinect senses too many people in the room, it will prompt the users to upgrade the license.

"Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content," the application for the achievements reads.

"To increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content."

The company has said that not all the patents they apply for will necessarily be incorporated into Xbox One.

"Microsoft regularly applies for and receives patents as part of its business practice; not all patents applied for or received will be incorporated into a Microsoft product," it told MCV.

However, the trade said that its UK industry sources have confirmed that the DRM system will be implemented on Xbox One.

The company claimed earlier in the week that its policies for the next-generation console were still subject to change before its launch.

Announced this week, Xbox One - described as an all-in-one "ultimate home entertainment system" - will be launched later this year.

While the system won't require an always-on connection, it must be connected to the internet every 24 hours.

A report suggested the firm and publishers will profit from all second-hand sales.

Xbox One will see 15 exclusive games launch in its first year, including Forza Motorsport 5 on day one.

Weren't all the demos of the voice command swapping between game/tv/web all pre recorded videos?

Be interesting to see how fluent it is in real time.

Interesting!
*speculation*.

In the 5 or so years I have never felt the need to play on my 360 when more than one other person is present. Not to mention my room is so small i dont even have the space to use Kinect so how will that even be an issue?

Sounds like a non story tbf. The company I work with deals with other companies patents, and a large number of the patents just sit there forever and are used for absolutely nothing at all.

The whole DRM issue is starting to get old already. In the grand scheme of things, when I'm sitting there playing Ryse or alike, I'm not really going to give a s**t.

Always have always will. Especially in the case of MS, which makes the media surrounding it even more pathetic.

It won't be an issue for you will it if you don't play connect :rasp:

I know at xmas there are about 10 of us in my dad's living room playing and watching others play the connect. That's the only time I've ever played it. Pretty sure that's the same for a lot of other people who use it as a social thing. Plenty of people in the room, parties etc. They have already said the next room sizes wouldn't have to be so big haven't they?

Cookie- Most of it probably will never happen, i just pasted the whole article so people could have a read.

I think it's the whole "buy a new game for £50 and then can't sell it on EVER so you're stuck with it" kinda thing. That's what folk are running around in their knickers worrying about.

Can't wait for this either. And to all you homophobes who don't like Batman games, I fart in your general direction

That's what I think will pit a lot of people (kids & parents) off it. Yeah they could swap it once with their friend but then they can't get rid of it can they?

Well, it's down to the publisher as they apparently reserve the rights to the decision whether they can be sold or traded.

The whole system is half-baked and a complete mess. I expect a backtrack at some point. However, for a lot of people the damage is already done.

I bet Sony can't stop laughing.

It's not quite as bad as you're making out dude lol. The Xbox community is too big to just wither away, it's not that simple.

God I need to shave. On a completely separate note

Its not even an issue. I cant do this with any game in my Steam list either yet its not stopped me using it. BattleField3 costs just as much on PC as it did on console and that didnt stop people?

This is true, one of the main reasons I can't stand playing online on 360. Voice is overused to the max. Mainly by 12 year olds.

Day-Z is pretty comical for it though on PC. Asking people for bog roll is amazing. Speaking of which, that gets some E3 time IIRC

Pissed. Didn't the 360 launch much later in Asia though?

Yeah, because the Japs will never favour the MS product over Nintendo or Sony

I for one am looking forward to PS4 launch day, where the internet will be filled with people used to a 360 pad whinging about how terrible the PS4 pad is.

Or, possibly, people whining that their Xbox One keeps crashing lol. As I said I'm not sold on the PS4 controller either, it looks a bit awkward.

Or a popular Final Fantasy character. f**k those games, like honestly f**k them in the arse. I can't think of a franchise I care less about.

Big puppy eyed ridiculous sword wielding 8 year olds with huge breasts. I mean it's just wrong isn't it.

Am I right in saying that you'll actually still be able to buy pre-owned Xbox One games? Sounds like nonsense scaremongering to me!

You can't only have one owner of a game. Shirley!

Yes you can still buy them and play them. There is an option for publishers to request a fee for the transfer of license which TBH is the model most of them want because they lose millions to the used game market. Whether any take up this option is going to be interesting as DLC allows a lot of the lost revenue to be made up from used games.

IIRC It's down to the publisher I think. You can trade it with a friend only once or something like that. So there'll be no pre-owned games in shops or anything like that, if my understanding is correct. But then it maybe isn't.

Sony are enjoying the backlash on all this though, clearly.
