I've now ordered the AliExpress DD Boost kit, everything I've read says it works a treat and saved around £120

@mace¬

Have you considered getting a buttkicker?

I'm a complete virgin to all this Sim Racing stuff, but absolutely loving it, between working all hours OT to pay for it and her milking me to decorate the living room I'm trying to manage my funds on what I think is needed in order.....

1) Boost kit - ordered as it is an easy win
2) Not keen on the CSL pedals and want a load cell, so either replace the lot and go for something else or buy the Fanatec load cell as a cheaper upgrade.
3) Shifter (H pattern and sequential in one) and handbrake as I just want it, Also want to get the EA WRC and I imagine myself handbraking the hairpins.

Then 4 and 5 are nice to have for now in no particular order
Replace the DD for something more powerful as bigger equals better but all depends on how the 8nm compares to the 5nm
The Butt kicker I looked at but look slike it needs loads of manual config and setting up I don't really understand,

Also chuck in that I'm still running the crap 32" TV I had lying around and I don't want to stop using the 34" curved I have for work so need a new dedicated monitor. Will probably wait until November and get the Odyssey G8 through work.

Anyway, that is the plan.

Then when she leaves me, before she takes all my money I'll go full motion.

I don’t massively rate EA WRC, I prefer Dirt Rally/Dirt Rally 2.

I wouldn’t rule out a TV these days. My LG B9 was less than a grand and is just unmatchable as a display.

8nm is pretty good tbh, most people with more powerful ones turn them down anyway, it’s not like most cars rip your arms off like a single seater if you get it sideways.

Cool, I'll try Dirty Rally 2 first then at a third of the price :)

I'm just using a 32" TV jobber the Mrs won in her works raffle, It is not great so will need replacing with something.

If you're planning on playing a decent amount of rallying games, I'd definitely recommend the Fanatec shifter as it's easily switchable between H-pattern and sequential. I know you've had issues with Fanatec but you can pick one up second hand off FB Marketplace or eBay. I'd also recommend the Moza handbrake as it's relatively cheap but works really well. It's much better than those cheapo ones you can get.

All I play is EA WRC and Dirt Rally so if you want any wheel/pedal setup tips then I'd be happy to help, I've got a World Record on a couple of tracks (sad I know).

Picture of my setup before I upgraded to a better curved monitor.

It's a tough call between Dirt 2.0 and EA WRC I think. There are definitely elements of D2.0 that I like, but EA WRC has better cars. I do miss Rally German though, as it was a good place to practice without too much jeopardy. Sadly, my handbrake won't work on Dirt 2.0 for some reason, so I don't really play it anymore.

I feel like EA WRC is a step up in terms of physics, especially the tarmac physics which were lacking in the previous Dirt games. However it does feel like a half-finished game. The career mode is really shallow, the tyre degradation makes no sense and some of the locations are boring (Croatia). Also most of the RWD cars are still as terrible to drive as they have been in previous DIRT's, they still can't get the physics right.

Overall I've put over 100 hours into it now and I still enjoy playing it, but it still needs a lot of work. I'm excited for the new locations being released in October!

Turn of lock on without realising it?
Think so, I couldn't even figure out how to start as I don't have a handbrake so after I'd be faffing about trying to start I wasn't straight.

First stage was something like 1st 4:20 I was somewhere around 6:30 so switched up and had a practice of the Rallycross instead.

Going to order the Moza handbrake.

It’ll come to you, the key is working out how to shift the weight of the car to get it to do what you want rather than actually driving it.

I find that the rallycross mode has a completely different physics model, some of the cars feel really top heavy and floaty at times.

Well well well, it appears Fanatec have gone bust! No wonder you had so many problems @mace¬ 😬

That would explain the no chance of compo reply then.

I almost bought the shifter the other night lol, that could have been another saga.

Boost pack coming later, what is the bets it breaks the DD and I'll have no chance with a warranty claim,

So AliExpress turned up, no problems at all, detected the 8nm straight off. Plug that came with the pack is tiny so guess it isn't fused, will find another out and job jobbed for £40 instead of Fuckyoutecs £150 one delivered.

Can also say night and day between 5nm and 8nm, so if it holds up I don't think the Moza R12 is in the picture at the moment.

What's everyone playing in 2024? I'm picking up a second hand T500RS, T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter tomorrow but it's been 10 years since I've done any sim racing. I've only ever had a Logitech G25 in the past, so this is still an upgrade for me.

I've got Assetto Corsa but not sure if that's still the go to game?

AC is still amazing, if you’re on PC.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is the ‘esports’ version of AC, a little more realistic with decent competitive racing but hard limited to just GT3 racing on the stock tracks. Other than that the usual Iracing, Rfactor, Automobilista 2 is quite popular these days, RaceRoom Racing Experience, also you have the rally titles Dirt Rally 2 and EA Sports WRC

I've decided to have a go after a few friends talked me into it.
I picked up a Omega GT ART with chair and monitor stand for £200, I've got some strengthening bits to go on.
Searched Ebay and Market place, the best price seems to be the bundle deal for Fanatec direct. Ordered at the start of August, UPS has package and will be delivered this week. 12 days order to deliery.
Will be using my trusty 2019 Alienware R7 (1080ti) to power it for now.
Also got a Samsung G5 34" Ultrawide monitor to go on the stand.
Can't wait, not played much other than Call of Duty for years....

Single best thing I’ve added to my rig recently was digging an old portable air conditioner out of a cupboard 😂

It’s in a small room that gets sun almost all day, and a 42” OLED plus the Xbox chucks out a s**t-ton of heat.

Still uhming and ahhing over what wheel upgrade to go for. I’m not bothered about having my arms ripped off with torque, but would like some more feel.

I hope they send you all the bits you ordered, especially under the circumstances that Fanatec are going through atm.

Rig looks good though 👍

Well I am truly awful at this so far. Any tips for getting better?
At the moment all I’m doing is hot laps around random tracks on AC, but it all feels a little empty. What would you recommend doing to improve? And is there a more social game mode for noobs? I didn’t want to race online and royally piss people off for spinning at the first corner.

I'm sucking a lot too, I'm doing a bit of Oulton park had to DL mod track on AC and the Clio V cup, I find the 720 easier to drive on ACC. At least I know where I'm going @ oulton. Brandshatch on AC with the Audi S1 isn't bad, yet to get the first long bend right though.
