Assuming once i take off the oil cooler block, oil filter will screw on as normal? Unsure if im missing something.

It should have the thread in the block as oem but does depend on what adaptor bolt has been used. The oem thread into the block to filter is cheap new if you need one.

Small uodate.

Bumper back on, arch liners fitted, discs fitted (still waiting for pads), brakes bled and engine mount fitted.

Should be back on the ground tomorrow.

Snappy sent me a pic of the steering wheel, will be with me tomorrow.

Different mats. The OE ones that were £80 didn't have a badge on them and had a one piece rear mat. Those ones were always about £40 - which is odd, as they look much nicer!

I thought the one piece rear mats were off phase one Clio’s?

Finally back on the ground.

Drove it up and down the road to check for any untoward noises and all is good.

Suspension/springs will take 24hrs or so to settle.

Still need to do a oil change and check the gearbox oil level, can wait until the weekend.

Friday i will start on the interior :)

Snappy steering wheel arrived today! Well chuffed.

Fingers crossed it delivers after alignment has been completed.

Remap to sort out the lumpy cold start and make the throttle more responsive, if it doesn’t already have one, then kick its head in.

A Phase 1 airbox gives a nice induction sound if that’s what you’re looking for.

That looks lovely. Makes me miss mine. I really would like another one, and probably should before they get too expensive.

As for modifications, 100% change the airbox and map it. They sound great with the right intake modifications. I'd like to drive one with Group N timing to see what it's like.

I had a go in one recently with the same setup and went suprisingly well.

I think the only downside is emissions etc, if thats an issue.
Yeah it makes a decent improvement tbh. Back in the day there was a French guy making semi Grp n tools - so it only advanced the inlet. That worked well too apparently, but I never drove one with it.

Next decision….

RS2 inlet (if i can find one)
Or
Throttle bodies
I've been sitting on the fence about an RS2 inlet. Has ITB like noises/characteristics without the downside of loosing an electronic throttle (plus no need for bonnet pins).
But the only thing I'm worried about is the loss of torque in the usable lower rev range. Which I've read you can tune out (possibly along with group n). But I've also read the opposite.
In my case. Good luck getting a decent tune. Since I'm in another hemisphere.
Don't want my 182 to feel like my daily FD civic

I’ll probably try Group N/airbox and map first.

I'm off to EFI on the 8th to get my Clio mapped, so I'm happy to share my results once it's done so you know what direction to go with yours.

Mine's got 197 Cams, Phase 1 airbox with ITG filter, 182 manifold with decat, ported/polished inlets and the PMS lightweight pulleys with aircon removed. I'm hoping for around 195hp at the most, I'd probably need 197 injectors to see any more than that.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I swear its common place to see standard 172/182 injectors get close to duty ceiling during WOT when using a similar combination of parts/pushing close to those numbers.
Would it be worth having 197 injectors on hand just in case? No idea how much they are on the used market in the UK.

Someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to jump in, but yeah around that power level I'll probably run out of fuel if they try to push it any further. I might pick up a spare set of 197's just in case, but they might not be necessary. Plus I'm not really sure if they require any special fittings for them to go on the fuel rail easily.

I've heard don't run the 197 injectors until you're on the dyno having the car mapped due to how much more fuel they spray.

I second the phase1 airbox idea. I had a carbon itg on a 172 and sold it to replace it with a phase1 airbox, in my opinion it sounded almost as good.

I ran Group N timing, an EFI map and an ITG intake on my 182 track car. It transformed its performance on the circuit, although I’d be hesitant to run it on a road car due to how lumpy it was at idle — it used to cut out regularly. Most of the chaps doing TDT have it on their cars.

I removed an RS2 inlet from a 182 a few years ago to go back to the standard inlets. I was selling the car, so it just made sense for the small account of work. Sold it for £1k, and already had all the bits to return it to standard.

Anyway the car was mapped by rs tuning, made 185bhp, and pretty much 150ftlb across the entire rev range as they typically do.

The car felt quicker and more fun to drive with the standard inlets for me. Everything else way exactly the same.

If you want to throw money into one of these engines, I think either group N timing or 197 cams is probably the best way to go. But they need mapping by someone that knows what they're doing and has experience on these setups.

The one i drove with grp n timing also could cut out in certain circumstances, i guess its due to the limits of what can be mapped on stock ecu. When i drove it, i was heel and toeing it and never noticed, but my mate said it done it to him occasionally.
