RSTuning in Leeds - experiences or anecdotal information/stories

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had experience or anecdotal information/stories with Paul from RSTuning in Leeds?
It's likely he'll be traveling to the Southern Hemisphere for a 'tour' around the country. Stopping in most major city's to tune some Renaults.
From my understanding he specialises in the models with turbos more than those that breathe naturally. Unless I am mistaken.

Got a 182 with the following parts waiting to be installed:
- ARP rod bolts (standard crank, rods and pistons)
- standard cams with grpN or 197 cams with 7/8deg inlet advance or Engine Dynamic spec piper cams (yet to decide)
- larger diesel oil pump
- 172 cup AC delete/Alternator setup
- RS2 inlet (along with PMS breather, catch can etc)

I have my preferences with Andy @ Engine Dynamics or Chris @ EFItuning/parts based on infomation and experiences I can find on this forum (as both have known history with the RS2). But obvisouly beggars can't be chooses considering my location.
The car currently has Henks 98ron map from Fastchip/RStuner. After speaking with Andy, he can tune it remotely using .cal files and data logging from the RSTuner hardware. I just need to get my hands on the Pro version of the programmer. As I currently only have the standard unit.

Though, It could be said. A tune from someone not as competent, with the car directly on a rolling road could possibly get a better result than someone who is, but performed remotely.

Please share away your thoughts, experiences, knowledge etc.

Cheers

I’ve not used Paul personally but I went with someone I know to get their modified 172 tuned. The person in question is about the most fastidious person I know when it comes to cars and Paul was the only person he trusted to do the work. We traveled all the way from Essex with the car on a transporter.

I don’t think you’d have any issues with Paul as I can’t recall any negative experiences ever.

Obviously I stand to be corrected if anyone else has experiences to the contrary.

I have used Paul for 15 years or more.

He has mapped my r26 in several guises, my c63 in several tuned states and maps my exige.

I have no problems with RSTuning and would recommend them.

I know that RSTuning also were the first to map their RS2

Just something to note. If someone says X Y or Z Is a better mapper then I’d be wary. Why didn’t they map their own car if they can understand the maps so well?

I took my 175 dCi to him which was kinda not running the best

Not only was he too busy messing about with an M4 2 hours into my session, he came across as a proper pellet. His maps are probably average but I wouldn't take my push bike to him for mapping after his attitude towards my car

Didn't even offer to get it on the ramp or diagnose it. Just seemed like he couldn't be arsed at all

The suggestion or 'fix' to them all working there was just to fit meth to it. Absolute doylems

Pretty much my experience with him aswell. As a paying customer I just seemed to be a complete inconvenience to him

Didn't this exact thread get posted a few months back by same OP?
Nah. Had me second guessing myself there for a bit. As I've been meaning to do a main thread post for a while.
It's likely you saw my thread hijack post in November on the new electric R5 page.
Getting close to crunch time. So thought I'd post something official finally.

All good mate! I don't blame you though. Just realised that the wording is very similar, even though I didn't pre-reference it prior to writing up this thread 😅

I used RST about 17 years ago when I had my 182 Cup. The car ran much better after and the service was fine from memory.

I used EFI about 15 months back and that service was first class. I felt totally involved during the whole session and Chris was a great guy to chat to and answer questions.

Thanks all for those that have responded so far. Really appreciate it.
Not looking for big hp/kw numbers. Just something that is reliable in all conditions. Especially considering our shite quality fuels and dry hot weather. Which can be a perfect environment for pinging/pre det in highly strung N/A engines. Obviously this isn't ideal with how finite X65 Clio's/F4R's are here.

So far, sounds like no gripes with the tune themselves.

Nonetheless, any further stories please share.

I can only apologise if you've had a bad experience and that's not how we want to come across. I'm guessing if I was that far behind and still working on the previous car two hours into your slot things had really not gone well! This should of course not affect the service you receive but it clearly did and my patience had left the building, if that makes me a "pellet" I best get that checked out too!

Not sure what you're basing my maps been average on, maybe the diesel as i'm far from an expert but I'll run rings round anyone in the world on a petrol Renaultsport on factory ecu.

Re the meth comment, I actually hate meth so I can only thing you spoke to specky in the workshop, not quite all working there and absolutely no need to sit behind a keyboard and call us "doylemes"

Happy to discuss this on the phone or in person if you like.

We actually did the development on the RS2 back in the day so we've plenty of experience. If you want a nice flat torque curve stock cams and timing will give the best result. Any cams or modified timing will put a hole in the midrange and give a peak higher up the revs. Personally not worth it. I can assure you any tune on the dyno that I do will be 100% safe and will drive very well. These always need a lot more accel fuelling or they have very bad flat spots on initial acceleration, most tunes I've seen for these don't change this at all from factory!

Its all well and good but there was no apology on the day. Just an offhanded comment from Paul saying "just trying to keep the rods inside the block on this" and that's a direct quote of what he said. Confidence inspiring that like

Specky made the meth comment which Paul and Alex both jumped onto like it was some sort of weird banter

I'm giving my honest review of my experience. Like others have said, they seem to have gleaming reviews, which is why I brought my car down. Only to be left with a sour taste

Imagine not commenting on the forum since 2014 and that being your response just because someone expressed his opinion based on a negative experience he’s had. Wow

If it's not brought to our attention that you've had an issue on the day then I'm not sure why you'd expect and apology other than your car going on the dyno late which you should have had an apology for there and then.
