Air-con removal, before and after power graphs

My air-con didn't work anyway lol Yeah turned out to be the alternator, replaced everything that the aux-belt drives until I'd sorted it though lol

Air-con removal, before and after power graphs

Decided to take my car back to EFI parts so I could finally find out if removing the air-con had really gained me any power or if it was purely just a placebo effect. I was pleasantly surprised :D Before: After:

    Rattle from cambelt area

Looks like the alternator was the problem. Replaced it today and the rattle has gone

    Mk1 f4r'd vs ph2 172 cup vs ph1 172....

Watch some of f0xy's track footage youtube videos of his F4R'd mk1, makes light work of mk2s tbh.

    Rattle from cambelt area

Yeah genuine pump. I span the pulley after fitting it and it wasn't catching on anything so I don't think it's fouling anywhere

    Rattle from cambelt area

Will do and I'll try that with the alternator as well. As for the water pump, when I removed the old one and shook it I could hear something inside it rattling, this is what made me think the pump was the culprit. The new pump did appear to be fine though, span round with no obscure noises.

    Non genuine upper engine 172

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/101re0330 That's the current one I have fitted. Seems to be a lot more solid than the Genuine upper engine mounts.

    Rattle from cambelt area

Lol. Aye, like I've mentioned earlier in the thread, if I run with car without the aux belt on the noise isn't there so it's definitely something that's being driven by the auxbelt. I've replaced everything other than the alternator so that's what I'll have to try next.

Both have been removed since removing my air con.

    Rattle from cambelt area

Replaced PAS pump and I've still got this annoying rattle. Next thing is to replace the alternator. If it's not that then I'm all out of ideas

    Rattle from cambelt area

It's definitely something being driven off the Aux belt. If I remove the belt and run the car that weird rattling noise disappears. It'll just have be done via process of elimination, I've got a spare PAS pump so I'll do that next, if that doesn't solve the problem I'll have to change the alternator

I don't have one Phil, that got binned when I fitted the air-con delete kit.

    Rattle from cambelt area

I've replaced the water pump but the rattling noise is still there. I ran the car without the auxbelt on and the noise isn't there so it must be either the alternator of the PAS pump that's the culprit. Taken a video which I'll post once it's uploaded. The noise in the engine bay this time...

Cheers mate. Hopefully mine is the same issue as it's not that difficult to replace.

    Rattle from cambelt area

I'm going to remove the Aux Belt tomorrow and start the car, if the noise has gone I'll know the issue is with the auxbelt or one of the things it drives.

The waterpump has crossed my mind tbh. Did you have any other visible signs of it failing? i.e was it wet around the pump area?

    Rattle from cambelt area

Just taken a video of the noise, I've had to do with the bonnet down because the camera doesn't pick the noise up with the bonnet up, the engine seems to drown it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo-40m0IBn8&feature=youtu.be

    Rattle from cambelt area

I've got a disconcerting rattle from around the cambelt area, sounds like it's around where the dephaser is. It's not your usual worn out dephaser noise as I've had that in the past, this sounds like something is loose. The noise isn't apparent while the engine is idling but as soon as you rev...

air con delete using standard pullys

The only difference between the two kits is the more expensive replaces all the pulleys the aux belts goes around and uses a 4pk belt rather than a 6pk. In regards to the guide just miss out the bits that aren't relevant. To remove the pulley I had break the outer edge of it so I could get a...

air con delete using standard pullys

You can still use that guide for the standard pulley kit though. The only real issue I had fitting mine was getting the old alternator pulley off the alternator.

    Possible PAS pump issue

Have a look at my other thread mate. There's a video in there of what was happening. If it's the same as mine then to tension the belt via the manual tensioner on the PMS kit is really easy http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=682270
