Took Special Bus on to Oulton Park again last Tuesday. Weather was perfect for it and there was a lot of grip right from the get go. Car was performing exceptionally well right up until the last session.
Some pictures from the day. (James Bryan's handy work) ;)
and a quick drive by...
They're a bit of a pain to fit if you've never fitted them before. It's case of getting all fittings in the correct order. Don't do what I did, open the pack of fittings and drop the tiny metal circlips on the floor. Took me ages to find them afterwards lol.
25mm spacers will be to wide for the PMS' stud kit. It does say up to 12mm spacers on their site but you can get away with 15mm as that's what I've currently got fitted to mine.
For the carbon canister, The pipe that runs back to the fuel tank, I cut that back and made sure it wasn't venting any fuel vapour near anything hot, and blocked the pipe that runs to the breather plate off. Beware though as removing the canister puts your EML light on.
Right, after inspecting the rack bushes it appears they're fairly new, certainly not the originals from the factory anyway. Removed my coilovers and I found this
Assuming the knackered topmount was my problem I replaced that but to no avail as I've still got this annoying creak.
Haha!
Just had a read of your project thread, hadn't realised how effort has gone in it, looks really well for it though. Really intrigued to see how it performs at oulton with the 197 cams and RS2 fitted. :D
I have done and seen them all mate. I'll suss a way on how to get the bolt out, it was the random 13mm bolt I got with the kit I was mainly asking about as it doesn't seem to have any relevance to the rack bushes.
Bought a couple of steering rack bushes from West Renault as I plan on replacing them once the weather gets better. In the kit though there's a 13mm bolt with each bush, what are those for? As the 4 bolts holding the rack to the subframe are 16mm bolts.
Also while I was under there I decided...
Ran the Konis with Sportlines on my Cup and it was the perfect set up for B-road blasting IMO. Never did take it on track but I imagine it would have been to soft. Currently have Konigsports on the front but ASTs on the rear on my Ph-1, it's a bit to harsh for bumpy country lanes but well suited...
As Jamie has said, the Lemforder one's ECP do are more than adequate for the job, they're around £33 for the pair if you use one of the discount codes floating around for there at the moment too.

Edit: Yeah it's the M12 ones you need.
Aye. Tis' a little strange tbh.
You can hear it from inside the car, where the steering column goes through the bulkhead and attaches to the rack. To me it sounds like it could just be the rubber boot that's creating the noise, or that could just be wishful thinking lol
Mine did exactly that when I had a knackered inner tie rod. I still do get a degree of "pulling" when accelerating on rough ground but nothing like it was.
I've tried searching but there doesn't appear to be answers to the issue I have.
While stationary, if I turn the steering wheel slightly I get a slight creaking sound from the rack, sounds very similar to a stiff door hinge. The noise is definitely coming from the rack and not the top mounts...
