    Tracking down bearing hum

I've had trouble identifying bearings before, this ones so loud I'm surprised there's no appreciable movement in the wheel

    Tracking down bearing hum

Yes I would say it's worse on right hand bends so left front bearing? Rears don't tend to react to this so much do they?

    Tracking down bearing hum

I wonder if the previous owner didn't put the rear disc spacers back when they changed the discs, is there an easy way to check or is simply a case of removing the disc?

    Tracking down bearing hum

Rainsports in 195 width, they are so much better than the worn 205 budgets that were on it, stopped the tramlining issues.

    Tracking down bearing hum

I did wonder that but just put new tyres on and it's still there, it's got the classic bearing hum too

    Tracking down bearing hum

My 172 has a loud bearing hum from about 40mph onwards that I can't locate the source of. I've tried jacking up each corner and spinning the wheel to listen for it as well as holding the spring to feel for and vibration. Any other tips to find out which ones gone short of taking it to a garage?

    Robs 172 Flamer Project

Snap mate! I'm also doing a flamer project. I've always loved the colour and it harks back to my Naples Red 1.8 16v, my first ever car. This is my 4th Renaultsport, 5th clio and 6th Renault. I think yours sounds like it's in a better state than mine was, it's a whole lot tidier and running...

    172 exhaust options

Yeah I've noticed that now, I'm definitely in the second-hand market at those prices and to be honest I think my priority has to be belts etc now

    172 exhaust options

On my list to replace is my shabby copy part exhaust, I'm open to ideas so stealth or cut bumper are both options as are full system or just back box. I want something to improve the sound, maybe a bit lairy but not silly loud and if visible a neat rolled tip maybe 2.5-3" sitting flushish with...

What have you done to your car today ???

Yesterday I refitted my dash top and interior sticky plastics after removing the vile sticky stuff and treating with Auto Finesse Revive, I also replaced my lacquer peeled drivers door handle. Today I picked up a set of pretty curbed 172 alloys with two near new Rainsports and two jinyu budgets...

    Replacement gear knob

I want to replace my manky 172 gear knob and gaitor for a ph1 or ph1 style. I was thinking the Richbrook alloy one would be the simplest option, has anyone else fitted one or recommend doing the complete ph1 mechanism

    Belts and dephaser time

Also interested to find a closer specialist, Herefordshire so not far from Pembrokeshire. I have been told there is a good bloke called Jamie at the Ford garage in Llandrindod wells

    Tracking

I do as of today and appreciate it's not a good idea but the problem was there beforehand. As soon as I get paid I'll be doing the same on the rear. I'll swap them over tomorrow and check over the track rod ends etc.

    Tracking

One other thing but not my top priority right now is that the rear isn't sitting as low as I'd expected on cup shocks and Grams springs.

    Tracking

Ok so now I have to admit that the place that fitted the Rainsports on the back(195s) checked the tracking but on an old school system so no print out but it was bang on straight ahead. Tyres on the front are budgets and 205s, front to back swap may be an idea?
