It's the rear heat shield. The fasteners break and the shield comes loose. Get some self tapper nuts and flat washers and fit them instead of the spring clip type fasteners.
I would recommend getting the timing checked. On full throttle the VVT will kick in around 4,500. Or it should if it's running right. The engine should run smooth once it's warmed up. They all run a bit erratic when cold.
Are you sure it's not working? Try switching ignition on but not starting the engine straight away and it should come on. Also you can check if the oil is ok by holding the button in on the stalk when you switch the ignition on and it sends the clocks into check mode. Keep pressing the button...
It's not a good idea to remove the guard. It protects the fuel rail. If you lose the studs then you can either get second hand from someone breaking a car or buy new from Renault dealers.
I've got a Scorpion system on my 172. It sits under the bumper and yes if you go over a bump fast it does hit the bottom of the bumper skirt. The only answer is to slow down going over bumps. I had mine fitted by Demon Tweeks and they do a good job of fitting them. Overall I like the sound it...
The injector problem is also a common fault. I had one blow out on mine. Quite often the injectors seize in the head which can mean the engine is scrap if they fail and can't be replaced. They go right through the head and you can't take the head off without removing the injectors. They're a...
Yes get the chain changed as soon as possible. My chain snapped at 92,000 in my Nissan Primastar which had the same engine as the Trafic. It's not in the service schedule and Renault and Nissan both say the chain doesn't need changing but believe me it does. If it snaps the engine is scrap. I've...
I use a rear brace in my car on track and it does stiffen the rear suspension. If its creaking at the back it's because you haven't greased the inside of the cup where it fits over the shock absorber tower. Just smear a bit of grease around the inside edge where it sits on the top and the...
I went 2 years ago and it was awesome. Its run by Bugatti Owners club. Prescott Hill is the home of the club. Last time they had a load of aero engine cars racing up the hill as well as Ayrton Senna's F1 JPS Lotus and the Veyrons also put on a show. At lunchtime we joined in the drive up the...
Mine is giving 167.1 bhp at the flywheel and 154 lbs ft torque. Thats a ph1 172 with Scorpion cat back exhaust and OE airbox with green cotton air filter element running on Shell V Power. It's done 124,000 miles as well so pretty good figures. That was at RS tuning 2 weeks ago.
Is anyone going to La Vie en Bleu this year? I'm going on Sunday. It sounds like its going to be really good again this year. I went in 2010 and it was a cracking day. I'm just hoping the weather picks up.
That's why you had problems. The metal has corroded from inside the system due to not being used. Any mild steel that's unprotected will corrode. Buy a stainless steel system then it will last. I went through two Renault centre sections in three and a half years at around £200 a pop. Bought cat...
Did the PAS dump all its oil ? Hope it's not going to cost too much to fix.
It was nice to meet everyone tonight. Sorry I didn't stay but I enjoyed the drive across from the Sandstone to Sandiway garage.
Thats a cracking route. I know a lot of those roads up there from my many trips to Hexham and Corbridge over the last 30 odd years. I usually go via the A686 from Penrith to Hexham. My other favourite is to go up as far as M6 J42 and cut through the back road to the A69 and come off at Greenhead...
I run mine on V power or equivalent. It doesn't run as well on normal unleaded, especially if its driven really hard. Before I bought the 172 I had a Citroen Xsara for a while. I did a trackday with it and filled up with Sainsburys normal unleaded before I went. The car felt really flat all...
I'll come for a meet and drive. Pass on the food though as we usually eat before 6 on Thursdays as my wife goes out again at 6 to run Brownies. I'll get there around 6.15 probably.
