If the exhaust is stainless steel then no need to seal it. Whatever you use has to be heat resistant as well. If its mild steel then get an exhaust paint from somewhere like Demon Tweeks
I'll add my two pennerth. I have a Ph1 172 that I bought 3 and a half years ago. I've done 15 track days in it and the car now has 125,000 miles on it. I've tried various tyre combinations and have gone for Toyo R1-R's after using T1-R's for a few years. Brakes are Brembo HC front discs and...
When I took it to RS Tuning recently they stalled it reversing it onto the rollers! He asked me if it was a competition clutch in it. I thought they were all like that.
Whenever we go any distance by car I ask my wife which car shall we go in and she always says the 172. Her car is an 03 Astra 1.6 automatic which was originally my mums car. She doesn't drive the Clio very much because she finds the clutch pedal quite heavy but on a decent run she's fine with...
Hopefully the weather will be better than last year. All being well I'll be marshalling somewhere in North Wales. Not had the list of stages through from the chief marshal yet.
When we were at Dieppe last July we were told the new RS Clio will be 1.6 turbo. Since then I have heard its the engine from the Nissan Juke that will be going in it.
My cable snapped at the back so took it local garage. He ordered cables from local parts supplier but they weren't Renault cables so they were wrong length when they were tried fitting. I had to go and get a set from main dealers and they went on without any problems. Handbrake is better now...
Why remove the aircon? Get a hot day and you will regret it. I use mine all the time including on track. I've had mine three and a half years now and replace stuff as and when its needed. It's just broken a front spring this week so that's being replaced next week. The handbrake cable snapped a...
My experience of 17" rims on a Ph1 is they are too big to fit properly in the arches and if the car is driven really hard over twisty roads the tyres rub the inner arches. I've got OZ F1 15" rims on the car but have a set of wolfrace 17 rims I bought 2 years ago after bending two of the OZ's...
The plug leads might be breaking down and causing it to misfire. The coil packs can break down after a while as well.I put Magnecor leads on mine a couple of years ago. I'd change the leads and plugs and see if that cures it.
You can change the chain with engine in. It's a bit of a tight squeeze but it can be done. It's definitely false economy not to change it because sooner or later it will snap.
To be honest I'd leave it in. Mine gets track use as well. It doesn't slow it down thats for sure. You're not racing in a championship, its only a trackday. If its a stinking hot day then you'll be wishing you had aircon. and it stops it misting up on a wet day so think about that as well. I leave...
When I bought my 172 it had a cone filter fitted and yes it sounded awesome but the performance wasn't what it should have been due to heat soak. I bought a 172 airbox from Renault and fitted a greenstuff cotton air filter element. The engine became quieter from the induction side and the...
I've got a spare pass for sale. Paid for extra one and when the first lot came they sent me two so I paid for extra one that I don't need now. Anyone want to buy it from me? £15.
It's likely to be the dephaser pulley. They get noisy when worn. It sounds like a noisy alternator bearing. Whirring noise. I had mine done with the cambelt last year. It was a lot quieter afterwards and the response was better due to the timing being much more accurate.
