Been well known in the industry for years. He's the first journo to make it public though. As a result, they won't let him drive another Fez.
I never bother refitting them to my own cars once they come off.
The way I see it, I'd rather know if my car had an oil leak. With one of these on, it'll be hidden.
I understand that modifications can result in warranty being void, but in this case a bit of common sense/ good will should apply as the modification is in no way responsible for the failure.
If you cut the laces on a pair of shoes and the sole fell out, would you blame the laces?

Plastic wingnut at the front of the box. Just under the clutch cable bracket.
On level ground with the wingnut out, the oil should be at the hole level.
