The original steering wheels on these are well known for the melting and thumb grip problems, and this car has suffered the same over the years, when we first had it, the wheel was badly melted, and one of the first jobs was to get and fit a replacement, that was back in 2011, around that same...
So to conclude work done for September.....
As I mentioned before, there was some paint problems dure to an old repair on the offside rear quarter, although on close inspection in 2011, there was some faint evidence of a repair on this section of the bodywork, it really was not obvious at all...
I used Hammerite smooth rattle can spray on my Esc. and still look good after a couple of thousand miles (4 years), it's garaged and not used in wet so this is probably best case. Don't have a recent picture, but know there's no rust - other than from a few scratches from putting wheels on/off...
Next little job....
Noisy Climate Control fan, not an uncommon problem and one I had before, where I bought a new one a few years ago, and that fixed it, but just recently the buzzing noise had returned.
There's a really good guide on here on how to fix this, so rather than spend another £45...
September has been quite eventful.
First, the cat damaged around the bell, joint, I guess it could have been sleeved, but as I found a s/h one locally, I went that route instead.
This was probably damaged at this joint for some time -at least a couple of years, it never seemed to affect...
Now nearing the end of August, the list of 'thing-to-do' is slowly getting the jobs checked off, but as one thing gets done, another one needs adding, so a bit like chasing a rainbow.
Anyway, I include a couple of things getting sorted over the last few weeks....
Having so much hot weather...
This is mine, made by 'Specialised Covers' in Shipley, multi-layer, very snug fitting, had it some years, they are still around, but the covers are expensive.
Bought my Lotus Elan' Sprint' in 1972 for £1,500, sold in 1982 for £2,000 (and had a lot of fun meanwhile but family forced sale as they say),
I know it's a lot of years (and a lot of regrets) later.
but now £35k if you can find a good original one.
I usually stick to OEM parts as they're generally better quality and 'fit', no idea why the Ren. springs are prone to breakage, just my personal experience over a few years driving carefully and low mileage, they really shouldn't be breaking -can be dangerous if a bit of spring ends up your...
I have replaced a couple of broken gen. Renault front springs with new , including one which only lasted a couple of thousand miles, the Ren. ones are expensive and break all too easily if you ask me. I have now replaced with Eibach Prolines, so far so good, they sit about the same or a tad...
Bit of an update
As there is some building work going on next door, I've had to leave the car at a friends for much of the time, so not really had much chance to drive it.
But have been getting on with a couple of jobs in between.
One thing been bugging me for a some time is the tailpipes...
Seen this at a local meet earlier in the week.
When I was MUCH younger I used to own one!
Well actually it was only a Renault Alpine Airfix kit, but loved it.
Couldn't take my eyes off it.
May/June Update 2018.
Taxed at the beginning of May, so we're back on the road.
Major job at end of May which I had planned for sometime, had the Cam/Aux belt changed, an expensive job and decided just for peace of mind to have the dephaser and water pump done at the same time, this is my...
Thanks for the comments lads, now I know, I'll get one of those filler brackets priced up, thanks for the info.
'Cerrone', yes, I would check it out, mine only had a couple of bubbles showing, but you can see what I found underneath....
My next little project was the filler cap recess, a bit of rust showing through the paint, and it'll only get worse.
Although the neck and plastic neck holder are relatively easy to remove, the cap hinge is a pain as the bolts rust on the inside, but eventually got it all off.
The extent of the...
Finally a day with no rain and a bit warmer, this was on the 'to do' list - the headlight units are a little cloudy in places, so I decided to see what I could do with an Autoglym kit.
The kit includes the rotary attachment/pads for the drill, 8x800, 8x1500, 1x2000 1x3000 grades, and the...
Glad it's prompted some discussion.
The reason for the o/p, apart from the initial 'awe', is that there is no apparent optical aberration from that door panel reflection, I don't know much about these things but surely to get a distortion free reflection you would need a near 'flat' surface -...
Well it's 2018, and realised I hadn't updated this thread for more than a year.
As my other posts have indicated, it's been another quiet year with the Clio and 2017 was pretty much uneventful apart from running costs, most of my time/money was soaked up by the RS2K which we continue to show...
Bought this off a market for next-to-nothing, new, and wanted a cheap bodywork protector, but not sure what it is would be used for as the shape is strange to me, has the light magnetic padded lining like a wing protector has and decent quality.
Thanks
Guys, thanks for all your input and points taken.
It certainly appears that 'Gally' has a VERY good reputation on here, so will have to think some more on that if I get no Joy.
However transportation is probably my biggest concern, off road transportation over that distance would probably be...
Well, one company with good reputation I approached, indicated that they would want 5K plus extra for glass out/in and at least a 5 month wait to get the car in!
I don't think that's a fair price for the work involved, so will have to keep looking.
I get the feeling that most companies don't...
Yeah, thanks, I can see that there could be an in-built margin for error, however, at one time both c/c & speedo were in unison throughout the speed range, so wondered why that changed, mechanically is much the same e.g. wheels/tyres, only springs were changed during the period mentioned and I...
