£150 for an SLR!!! Unless you pick up a 2nd hand bargain, you just cant get one for that price!!! Cheapest new SLR is the D40 and thats on Amazon for around £230!

The amount of lenses that will auto focus on the D40/D60 is getting longer and longer. Nikon lenses focus really quickly and the VR is excellent!!

I had a 450D with the 18-55is and 55-250is for a week before getting shot of it and going back to Nikon! The VR works so much better and the AF-S VR lenses are better built and focus a hell of lot quicker (with no price difference). I also compared my D40 shots to the 450D and was not impressed...

D40 IMO, put the extra money towards better glass. The D60 will not improve picture quality. A couple of quotes: 'Save your money and get the D40 instead. The D40's faster sync speed is invaluable for use with flash outdoors, and the extra light sensitivity in normal use will help make sharper...

None of my pics have been played with - apart from making a few black & white! For low light on the Nikon... the Sigma 30mm F1.4 is good, and the Nikon 50mm F1.4 AF-S (released next month) will both auto focus on the D40.

The 18-200 is a bit of a jewel. Many people on flickr hate it, saying its just average, but for me the picture quality is very impressive. I just think they have a problem with getting over how good a superzoom is!!! Taken loads of pics with the lens...

Not reading thread properly = FAIL! Thought you were talking about the kit lens lol!!!!!! Now realised your talking about a £500 lens!!! Where do you lot get the funds for so many lenses!!!

Good choice, but look out for dead pixels on the LCD, they show up as bright blue dots and seem to be a common problem on the D60. Would have gone for the VR lens TBH, its a bit better built and the finish matches the camera body as it has the same coating, not just pure black plastic.

I'm finding the 18-55is pretty good, build is ok. Complements my 55-250 nicely and now I have the 50mm its a very good set up!

^ Agree, its no worse than the 50mm f1.8 I had on my D40, if anything its better!! Great little lens, so damn light I cant get over it! Time to go try some low light situations over the weekend!

How much is the current lens worth? The 55-200Vr can be got for around £120.

My set up of lenses is 18-55is, 55-250is and 50mm F1.8 so nothing special to be honest, but the 50mm must be the best addition I have bought! Amazing value for money!

Great review! Was tempted by the D90, but couldn't quite stretch to the body + a lens so settled for mine.

I managed to get the nifty fifty for £30 off a friend as he has upgraded to the 1.4. Its better built than I thought, yeah its all plastic, but it fells more sturdy than I have been led to believe! Very light, wouldn't even know its there! Noisy AF, but nothing major, focuses quick enough for...

If he wants more range the Nikon 55-200VR can be had for a decent price these days if he decides to go the lens change route.

Seems reviews say image quality is excellent, but build quality is bad... but for around £50 I'm think this may be the next purchase! Any of you Canon users got or used one and opinions?

Recommendations please - I'm not a huge flash user, but will be good to have just in case!
