Use the lenses you have.
Lighting will be far more important, especially outside as you'll need to control natural with artificial for fill.
Depending on the effect you want I'd probably do the opposite of Revels and not go wide. I'd step right back and use the 70-300 with a remote flash...
Ta for all the suggestions, picked up Left 4 Dead 2 in the steam sale! Turn on, connect, shoot sh*t turn off, perfect :D
Can't wait for Crysis 2 though...
Got myself an i5 quad core GTX470 power house (ok so its OK)... and need a game to really test it.
Currently have CS: Source
Think I'll get Crisis 2 in the new year as that should really test out my system and has an on-line element. I'd rather wait for this than bother with black ops, unless...
As amazing as they are, it'd be an odd one to own as your only camera.. a bit like a film camera, fun mind.
OP, depends what you want to shoot, do you want a pocket compact for snaps, travel and drunken nights out or something with some zoom, hit some sports or wildlife?
Buying a pocket...
LOL at saying that to one of the published CS shooters.
I'll say no more.. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?441402-2nd-Hello-From-Afghanistan
To the OP, I'd use what you have, add a tripod though. Look at shots on flickr etc. The best thing you can do is look at location and...
Jus' another day in the city!
Had it a week, sooo much fun!
Its nothing, much quicker than driving and the same time as the train but way more fun.. scalped a few CS members on the way in... ;)
Looking at my price bible:

Looks like another 500D or if your looking second hand, you could get a 40D or 50D perhaps. I'd say sticking with Canon is a no brainer.
Budget?
My mate with a cheapo one watched his lens tumble glass first into gravel! Don't spend thousands of pounds on gear and put it on a £10 tripod. I spent £55 on a Velbon Sherpa 250r, does a good job. Looked at some £200 options and you are getting a little more stability and flexibility...
Have you held the 60D?
I'd take my 40D over a 550D but then it depends what matters most to you. In terms if image quality there is very little difference across the range at your average ISO speed. Ergonomics, focus speed and frame rate are what really seperates them IMO.
On the flip side...
I've had a new pc for 2 weeks now and this morning the software needed restoring (fingers crossed it was only a software fault), so had to start from scratch.
I didn't lose anything but is there any way of backing up a PC that means I don't have to go through all the agro of re-installing...
Maybe a MASSIVE can of worms but PC or PS3 edition?
I've just purchased a rather powerful PC and want to put it to the test & have picked up CS: Source after a few years out. That aside, I've played PS3 for years now but I'm not a massive gamer, more of a pop on now and then for multi player...
I've not a clue, somebody else will have to do that, all I know is I have a new PC coming with a USB 3 supported mobo and 3.0 USB ports and want an easy way of backing up without thinking about it...
Anyone recommend an external HDD, that runs 3.0?
It'd be really useful to get one I can plug in and have it auto back up my hard drive?
Have this on my radar so far..
Buffalo DriveStation 1TB External Hard Drive Super High Speed USB 3.0
