Just had a browse around POTN and this 400D + other bits had a £200 reserve..

Or for another 100 notes you can get...
Sounds like a reasonable price, I'd be happy to shift mine for that.
Ask for an f/22 picture of the sky first though, as my sensor is a mess I'd check to see if this one needs a clean. Could be up to £60 for a clean at a local store or £20-30 for all the parts to do it yourself. Also see if...
For someone with no prior knowledge its a good little starter, I cringe when I hold mine now but its still a very capable camera none the less :)
How much is it being offered for, presume its with the 18-55 kit lens?
Wow, never seen a DSLR produce something that noisy, that's a lot of hot pixels.
In the future try a higher ISO like 400 and a larger aperture like f/11 to get yourself a much quicker shutter speed..
Wow Chris that's value.
I just use dA at the moment but should probably move to smugmug, looks like a great way to host and back up all my pictures at full resolution.

It could be but go to Jessops or something and take a look, I'm sure my 350D and 70-200 was to long so you'd have to dismount to a smaller lens every time you used the bag.
Yup its fine, use my 70-200 F4L successfully with a Kenko Pro 1.4x TC when needed.
If your getting such big lenses I'm not sure even the 300AW will be big enough, I was going to get a 200 before holding one and realising how small it was.
Hate to point this out but unless I'm being stupid P or TV at 1/250 won't cope any better than each other with a back lit balloon as I'm sure you aware :p but thats a whole new area of photographer.
Bickering aside, since this must have happened a few days ago be good to see what worked..
Depends completely on what your shooting. Both are 'slow' so to speak, one has a little more reach and IS, the other has better build, colours, contrast and sharpness.
If I was shooting Full Frame I'd get the 17-40 all day but I'm not so my choice would be the 17-55 F/2.8 IS or the Tamron 17-50...
Ixus 75, bought one for my parents, it does ok in day light, can focus rather closely and the time lapse feature is pretty fun...

D80 + 18-70 would be a good start, I'd also recommend playing with a 30D which can be found for bargain second hand prices, see what one takes your liking ergonomically.
If your serious be prepared to splash out on some glass, not essential to make someone a good shooter but more reach etc...
Would be good, one of the best p&s's out there. Could be a little chunky though, been using my parents Ixus 75 recenlty which has some cool features like Time Lapse, maybe check some of the higher Ixus models...
Nothing wrong with the kit lens for a beginner, people moan its crap but for anyone starting out its perfectly good.
Look at the EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS

Hmmm never held or seen one but I've heard it described as Canons worst lens many a time. The Sigma gets plenty of good reviews as great value for money. From the sounds of it you'll just want to sell the 75-300 in a week..
The 70-200 F4 currently has £40 cashback until the 31st, might be worth...
Pending a few reviews I'd say so, as long as it proves sharper than the 18-200 OS, kit lens and is close to or better than the 17-85 I'm in. Only problem is I tend to shoot f/2-2.2 but I'm sire it'd make a great travel lens, really did hate being away and lugging 4 lenses.
Yup but not widely, its on HK eBay and maybe a few UK stores now, been reading some positive stuff on POTN and dpreview, apparently the OS is capable of producing sharpe pictures at 125mm @ 1/30.
In a similar boat, went away camping recently and 4 lenses is a pain in the arse! I'm thinking sell my 2 primes (28 & 85) and buy the 17-55 or 24-70L or keep my primes and get the new Sigma 18-125 OS HSM.
Price will drop from the RRP, the RRP is lower than that of the 450D on release.
I can't see it failing, people in the market for the similar Nikons will check this out and its also not cripped by AF-S only lenses. It'll only fail in the eyes of people who cringe at 1.5fps RAW, which means...
