I had a similar issue, Clio written off and a wife telling me to buy a 4dr. I plumped for an E46 330i. Shame I didn't have your budget, really like the drive of the S-Type.
Only just caught up on the thread and results. Never thought my 182 was one of the quick ones, 168.5bhp proves that lol.
The track 172 feels much quicker so I'll have to bring that next time.
Shame I couldn't stay longer and see more. What did the 330ci end up pulling?
I've noticed, since picking up my E46, that the older BMWs are neglected as far as a forum and knowledge base goes. I'd say there's a gap in the market, but I'm not convinced, and think the vast majority of E36-46 are bought by people that prefer the dashboard style or the badge (slightly...
I've not bothered yet but no reason to not give it a bash while I prep it as its not a road car in any capacity now. Found the 197 Brembo's took a hammering pretty well.
You find any problems routing it or have any advice?
Mines gone dedicated track car after a small engine bay fire and it'll need a few bits before it'll run again. Would be nice to get it in the teens on 31st March. Sadly can't afford to have it ready any earlier.
What spec you running this time round?
From memory I was around the 2:20 mark. Full interior, marginal T1-R rears, fronts were fine and tired suspension. Have a video in my progress thread with a 2:26 in traffic.
Has K-Tec style induction kit
Custom cat back
4 pot Brembos
And it seems a relatively strong engine.
Hopefully in...
Been a while since I've updated but with Christmas and other things on the go it's been a hectic few weeks. Have some updates for both cars:
172 - Progress has been slightly slower on this one. I've made the call that the engine isn't worth the cost of the belts. It's done 124k and does seep...
Reckoned up between my brothers, sister, parents and I, we've had 14 Clios.
Personally though:
1.2 8v Authentique
2x Iceberg 172 (still have one)
05 RB 182 Cup (still have)
And a few as company cars.
I know I'm bringing something back from the dead but assuming you did the above, does the 197 have a different water pump to the 182 and would you use the 197 cam belt instead of the 182 belt?
Welcome, nice to see another North West member. Although it's probably only for noise, I can't look past a good induction kit (similar to the K-Tec sytem) on these, they sound great. Other than that it seems you have some nice plans, looking forward to seeing the finer details
I assume they're meaning there's an issue with the O/S drive shaft as it has a mid bearing. They'll mean the shaft between the mid-bearing and the gearbox. Not known of anyone just replacing that part, you'd usually do the full O/S drive shaft.
Well not a huge amount of progress but a few little updates.
The 182 has eventually had a puncture repaired. Been running on the spare from the 172 for a couple of months now. It has developed a none too pleasant grumbling from the power steering though when it's cold. Sounds horrible for the...
Lol, sadly not.
No details but I'm led to believe we'll have some good offers on tomorrow www.ao.com . Might be worth a look if any of you are interested (no benefit to me I must add, just trying to be helpful).
