Most salesmen I worked with (and not just at Renault) knew little about cars, they were sales people not car enthusiasts and that's where the problem lies. They also rarely stay at dealerships longer than a year or two in most places so never truly learn enough to be described as knowledgeable...
I've fitted Gaz coilovers this week but got new standard top mounts and left the bushes alone. Wouldn't say it's too hard from initial impressions, have the rear damping set to the softest at the moment.
Oh, and my sill (typical Renault chocolate metal) decided to bend as I was trying to get an axle stand under it. Little damage to the side skirt but only visible underneath so it'll stay that way.
Well, the coilovers are now on the rear as well (pictures to follow when it stops raining) and I seem to have solved the knocking which was a loose engine mount.
Just the lambda and servo to do. Lambda will get done tonight but a little dubious that my pal will be able to change the servo with...
Well read up on some track car projects for ideas for next year [emoji6]
Hopefully after this week the 172 will be fighting fit. Busy day tomorrow as the spring platforms are here as well.
123,500 miles on the 172, and it's decided that everything is breaking at once. By the end of the week it'll be mint with the amount replaced.
182 is only on 58k. 172 has a much stronger engine.
Ha ha, didn't expect to see you on here. Funnily enough yes, albeit you know this already.
Only small updates really, I'll start with the bad news:
Pre-cat lambda (I'm pretty certain) is FUBAR. Runs like crap most of the time but the new one is due in a couple of days. Typical of it to go...
Great all rounder, brakes and handling not quite up to Clio standard without splashing a little cash but that engine and torque is addictive. Had it 4 years, only sold it to fund work on the house
Have similar symptoms but my shocks and bearings are also knackered. Fitting coilovers this week and if that doesn't get rid of the noise the o/s bearing will be high on the list of culprits.
Car looks nice by the way, impressed with the paintwork.
All depends on how much you get the calipers for, cost me £346+ discs and pads. Admittedly the paint isn't perfect on them but I don't care so much. Would be interesting to know about clearance on the OZ's as I fancied a set, didn't realise it'd be so close. Will have to see if anyone near me...
Looks good, that amount of cleaning looks like torture to me though, looks like it was worth the effort. V6 spoilers do come up on here from time to time, they're not cheap from Renault. Many more plans for it?
Well on Friday, after 8 weeks, Ste from SC called me with the good news that the car was ready so went straight down there after work and picked it up.
Since the last update the main change had been that there was a new ABS pump on the car, new front discs as one was badly warped, I'd had a...
For how much I've spent already, and that I'm running out of things to change to solve it, I might as well look to change it. Isn't the biggest or most expensive job. Thanks for the advice.
It's definitely bled properly. Has been the same with two different ABS pumps and 4 litres of Superblue through it. The problem only seems to start once the car's started.
If I press the pedal twice when stopping the bite point of the brakes rises for the second press, so long as it's done...
Annoyingly it seemed fine last time I tried it, admittedly haven't tried it since it's had the ABS pump changed though. From advice from a mechanic was that they didn't think it was the servo. You feel that's a realistic possibility?
For a number of weeks I've been stumped by a braking problem that is pretty persistent and won't go away. At first the symptoms were of air in the system as the pedal had too much travel but then did stop well at the bottom of the pedal travel.
So far to solve this I've:
Replaced a rear caliper...
Iceman's old race car build is a 182 but now runs a 172 system for weight reasons. http://www.cliosport.net/threads/my-new-racecar-project-icemans-old-shell.676156/
