I think the answer to that is the belts need doing plus other work so will cost you £500 to £1K to get it upto spec again.

unless its had the belts done, you looking at another £500 on that straight away. Also check the gearbox is ok as they are a weak point on the 197's iirc.

no body said different gauge cables are alike, what we said was that for a short run on household equipment, you are unlikely to notice the difference. If you hooked it up to a scope you might see some difference, but tbh the THD of the amp is probably going to be a greater concern. 16-12 gauge...

one of the reasons the ODB port is so large is to protect against shorts... I wouldn't be splicing into it unless you are good at wiring.

Some wireless mice and keyboards do not work natively. Have you got a usb/ps2 keyboard you wan try? If so, first step would be to get it connected to the internet and turn on automatic driver downloading. This should then download the correct driver for you from windows update.
