very good so far George, as much initial bite as the RC6 but with a lot less nasty dust, no fade either, we'll see how they last, if they wear well I can't see me trying anything else tbh :)
Got a bargain stud conversion, made better by the 20% code eBay had last week!
Just got 68mm as I've no plans for spacers
Last track day of the year this Sunday, can't wait.
Just cruise in on the slow down lap in 4th/5th gear, get back to the pits, leave the handbrake off and open the bonnet to let it cool down. My water temps have never been high on track.
You don't need to us the new loom, look at the difference, there's only a little ridge of plastic to shave off with a sharp knife, old plug fits and clicks in, never had an issue :)
1. Dephaser/belts done within the last two years
2. Quality 6 point cage, not eBay special
3. 15" wheels for cheaper tyres
4. Decent seats with Fia 4 point minimum harnesses......in or out of date
5. Brake cooling
6. Decent all round condition
7. Decent coilovers would be nice
.........but the...
alarm went off one day, went out and the car was filled with smoke. Opened the door and the card was smoking and melting, ripped it off and put it out! Seemed to come from the electric mirror switch, car was sitting for days, weird!
Bend it back out, wire brush it and spray with stone chip. I got little bits of stainless box section and bolted them on to give some strength, then covered that with stone chip too, been jacked up countless times since and nothing has budged
Quick update,
Fitted new HC discs on the front with DS1.11 pads from @George@RTR_Parts , along with the 888s the car felt fantastic. I did a session scrubbing the tyres in, and as the day was quiet was looking forward to hammering it all day long, but the Clio had other ideas again, jumped in...
no mate, really unimpressed tbh. It's too big, there's no position on my car where it doesn't either cause vibration or impede a gear change! It needs cut down by about 20mm to work imo, but it's too heavy, bit stupid on a track car I decided.
what about rallysport? They have a winter series, held at nuts corner amongst other places, ~£80 Some rally-esque rounds I'd avoid but some Tarmac too :)
Depends on the coilovers, ASTs are conventional Spring over damper, others like billies have adjuster platforms that sit in the oe Spring location, with shorter springs
As long as I actually make the last two that'll be 10 for me, couple of issues along the way, O2 and crank sensors and brakes or it would've been more lol
Might have the ASTs rebuilt, also need a gearbox rebuild if I can source the parts, crunching into 3rd and leaking quite badly from the selector seal now 😧
Two more track days until it goes off the road again though
much worse, especially for a pure track car like mine, regularly clipping the limiter (easily done on track) is a good way to snap/stretch your rod bolts, mine doesn't see ordinary daily driving, these engines can Rev to 7400, much safer Imo. I have shift lights to keeps me well under though...
most beneficial on track, clipping the limiter regularly is hard on rod bolts amongst other things, easy to do when you're revving it to the redline every gear change
Thanks Tom! I bought the ASTs 2nd hand and there are no numbers on the springs unfortunately, I'd love to know. Even on softer settings they are close to unbearable on the road.
I've been using NS-2Rs and RS-Rs so I'm expecting an improvement :)
